People don’t seem to realize that being on a ventilator is not a walk in the park. It is a Great Big Deal-- much more invasive than getting a shot.
A guy I know who is a respiratory therapist in a local hospital told me that they have to remove the ventilator as soon as it’s obvious the person is not going to make it… because they need it for someone else.
There’s a Bend Oregon Youtube link posted somewhere here. As described in the dialog, as the camera pans around – you can see somebody standing beside a patient, ventilating by hand. Standing there squeezing a bag.
I never thought I’d seen that being done except in first aid or after equipment failure.
This has happened to my teenage son twice so far this school year – two weeks ago and then again today. Since he is vaccinated, by school COVID protocol, he doesn’t need to quarantine – he’ll return to campus tomorrow.
In his school, masking is strict – no political nonsense from anyone.
I’m sorry for not replying, I have a very big kitten who gets into everything.
Hubs does NOT think he is lucky, he thinks he has a strong immune system and COVID is a hoax. He honestly only got jabbed and promised to get any boosters needed because he’s a tightwad and knows that I’ll keep spending money on pain in the ass kittens.
As you can see, he really doesn’t like kittens.
I was checking Maine Coon breeders when the world ended. At that time, Coons were running around 800. The world ended and people all over the place were staying at home and had time to finally buy that full bred kitten or puppy they had always wanted. The prices for all breeds shot way up.
No fans in the stands, so presumptively minimal. Covid is everywhere, it’s not like the athletes are going to be bringing anything back to virgin territory.
This is a recurring theme with anti-vaxxers. I’ve had people with diabetes, cpap machines, 4 blood pressure medications, and/or a 60-lb beer belly assure me they’re ‘pretty healthy’, so not worried about beating Covid. Machismo or just delusional.
Almost every time there is a news article about a particular person, in one instance a child, in the hospital ICU fighting COVID - I’ve noticed a LOT of comments along the lines of “See how overweight that child is? No wonder they caught COVID, they have a weak immune system.”
I think that much of this is driven by fear. These people wish to convince themselves that THEY"RE not going to catch the illness, or if they do their immune system will be strong enough to fight it off. So they look for ANY excuse to say that THOSE people in the ICU are somehow different. (And, of course, convince themselves that they do not have to take a (sarcasm on) SCARY (sarcasm off) vaccine.)
Little frustration rant: I haven’t had a haircut since 10/2019. Suffice it to say, it’s long and the ends are rough. I called around to various places - from Great Clips to chichi salons:
Me: “Do you have mask requirements?”
Them: “No, unless you feel like you want to wear one…”
Me: “Okay, thank you.”
Them: “When do you want to schedule an appointment?”
Me: “I don’t. Thank you”
Last night I almost took my crappy Fiskars to myself, which would’ve been a bad thing.
My opthalmologist’s office just called to remind me of an upcoming appointment next week. They said that I had to bring my vaxx card with me. Yay for my opthalmologist! They see a lot of elderly medicare people there, and the doctor himself looks like he’s in his 70s.
I probably mentioned this before, but I downloaded my COVID vaccination record and all vaccinations record from the state’s website and saved them as files on my phone; so I have my certificate whenever I need it – unless I forget my phone.
Hey, that finally worked for me. I had tried a few months ago to access my state’s website, but kept getting messages that I wasn’t in the system. I just tried again and it worked! Everything’s in there, including the booster! Of course, then I had to find someone smarter than me to find out how to load the image onto my phone (hold down some buttons to take a screenshot and then save it into my photos), but it’s there now. Now I can have it on hand for the doctor or the airport or whatever.
I have an app that lets me access my medical records from multiple providers. My vaccination is recorded in my chart, but it had always taken me a few tries to find it.
A couple days ago I opened the app, and there was a message explaining that you could put your Covid vaccination record on the home screen of the app to access it with one touch, and a link taking you to the screen where you could accomplish that. So now I have pictures of the front and back of my card, and easy access to my actual medical record of the vaccinations. I’m really pleased by the helpful message.
In case it wasn’t clear, that’s not what I was talking about. My healthcare providers provide access to my chart and appointments, etc. through an app. My vaccination was recorded by the provider in my chart, which I can access through the app. Now I can do so even more easily.
