Correlating sequences of (pseudo-)random numbers

This is probably off base, so flame away… but I’ve found that Excel’s autofill function is really good at figuring out pseudo-random sequences.

It’s not a question of generating random numbers–Excel is decent at that, but not something you’d use for security purposes–but a question of getting them to be properly related.

btw, flaming is very much against the rules in this forum. That doesn’t mean you won’t get flamed for posting drivel here, but it won’t be in this thread. Also, you gotta go pretty far before anyone calls you out.

Well, thanks to all who’ve replied; this has been more comprehensively answered than I could have hoped. I think I’ve got my correlated sequence working satisfactorily now. And many thanks to Omphaloskeptic for the full background maths. That formatting must have taken ages; I really appreciate it.
