Leland was from San Francisco. If you want to get elected to so much as a school board in SF, you run as a Democrat. Even if you are a right-wing ideologue. ---

There is no one in SF getting elected without being a full-on liberal. My favorite was one of the Board of Supervisors, Sandoval, who when arguing that a WWII ship had no place in the bay as a museum (USS Iowa I think) seriously stated that the U.S. should disband it’s military. Wait—my super favorite is when Cindy Sheehan ran against Pelosi. She got like 20% of the vote, because Pelosi wasn’t left-wing looney enough! HA! ---

Leeland Yee can’t be described as a right wing ideologue, though. If you look at his positions, he’s pretty liberal. I don’t think there’s any deep lesson to be learned here. Yee’s political positions didn’t make him corrupt and didn’t keep him from being corrupt. ---

So he pretended to be pro-gun control to get elected And, yes, I know using it that way is rather stupid. ---
