I’d sure like to laugh along with Maeglin and Scylla with the Latin stuff there, but my knowledge of Latin is wholly comprised from the scene in _Monty Python’s Life of Brian_ when the centurian is teaching Brian how to conjugate the phrase “Romans go home.” Is it possible to get this thread with subtitles? ---

well, if you ask reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal nice… maybe. sorry, no help here. all of my knowledge of Latin is wholly comprised of the site i cited above (no pun intended). if the phrase is there, of course, well then oops, musta missed it. ---

I was just skimming the [page](http://w1.871.telia.com/~u87112797/show-off.html) Cougarfang linked to earlier, and had to wonder… Can’t you just picture Roman children in the back of the family chariot, yelling “Noli me tangere!” at one-another? - **astraeus** , who feels it’s particularly appropriate that he post here, since his name is the Latin form of the name of one of the Titans. NB (that’s _Nota bene_): This should not be construed to imply that I remember much of the Latin I took–but I do for some reason still have memorized the Latin version of “Baa Baa Black Sheep.” I kid you not. ---

The latin version of “Baa baa Black Sheep?” Sounds like fun! Did you create it yourself, or was it an excercise in class? This has _almost_ inspired me to attempt creation of my own Latin sig…although probably nobody will start a thread about it should it appear…good job, **Cougar**! ---

Ok, this may be a little late, having just been directed here by Earl, but I think that it bears mentioning that “difficile est non saturam scribere” is from Juvenal’s first satire, concerning why he was lambasting Rome instead of writing girly little elegaics. Anyhow, that’s the historical background… And the moral of the story? Latin classes aren’t useless. So happy i didn’t waste my undergraduate career. Tenebras ---

It’s “Illegitimi non carborundum.” Or at least that’s the most widely circulated version; as I understand it, it’s not “proper” Latin or something. Translation: “Don’t let the bastards grind you down.” My family motto: Si es fatuus, debes esse fortis. ---

[nerd mode=“Latin”] I feel obliged to point out that the first line, “Cave felis” should read “Cave fel_em_”. The former would be a warning to a cat, something like “Kitty, beware!”, since the -is ending would be nominative or vocative (it could also be genetive, but that wouldn’t make much sense here). Since the cat is the thing you’re being wary of, it should be in the accusative, with an -em ending (since it’s third declension). [/nerd] _POW__splat_ _hands **Ranam Masticatum** a brain mop_ ---
