Detroit really is close. Wings are the best. Tigers may be back on track. The Pistons are very good.
The Lions are only 10 or 12 wins from being contenders.

You said it out loud! Don’t do that!

> You could say the same about the five burroughs in New York, so I’m not sure if that’s a compelling reason to consider them distinct.

The five boroughs of New York are all part of one city, and, AIUI, the locals do, in fact, consider their sports teams quite distinct.

Actually, the LAKERS don’t play in LA, either; they play in Inglewood, which is sure as hell a lot different from Hollywood (it’s in LA County, at least.) All big cities vary from subcity to subcity, that’s not unique to the Los Angeles area.

Los Angeles County and Orange County are two very, very different places. Most people in San Diego and L.A. objected to the Angels taking on the L.A. tag when it happened. It just doesn’t make sense, culturally speaking.

The Patriots, by the way, certainly _do_ play in New England, which I suspect is why they’re called the New England Patriots rather than the Boston Patriots.
