Dear Appleciders
Steel while a very good structural material doesn’t withstand heat very well. The the “fire safeing” material is sprayed on to protect the structural steel from the direct heat of a fire so that the building will not collapse prematurely during a fire.
The goal of most US Fire Codes and Building Codes is to get the occupants out of the burning building safely. Preventing loss of the Building is a secondary goal.
