I think it is more that he is fighting the culture wars where they want them fought. Of course, Trump has no particular interest in US Culture any more than he has in upholding the Constitution. Be careful about what you wish for. IME, the infighting that occurs when such a figurehead does pass is very likely to inflict a considerable amount of collateral damage. The people who are fighting do not care who gets hurt. ---

Yeah, the creepiness of those is a bit unsettling. I have a hard time believing he let’s it continue. There is a very fine line between the cloying fawning and sarcasm. ---

It isn’t about whether the compliments are true, or even plausible; the more than the offerer is willing to debase themselves by exaggerated fawning, the more it makes Trump look like the strongman autocrat that he desperately wants to be.
