Depends, but probably not. If money could buy amazing health care than yes. If not, no. I don’t think medicine is advanced enough to solve some of my bigger problems so no, it wouldn’t matter. I’m not going to turn down free money though, it would be nice to not have to work.
ETA: looking into it there are a variety of specialists all over the world who work on new, esoteric therapies related to some issues I have. So I’d need money for travel, hotel lodging, therapy, etc. Being able to travel anywhere and see any medical specialist instead of being stuck in the same city due to a job could help me out. I assume that would come to under $50k. That is assuming the therapies worked.
As money is not the actually problem it would take millions, billions and even trillions of units of first world currency needed as just a causal side effect and yes I believe I will get that, but the real need is not in in $$$, just the bill against the world that they world will need to pay.
Everything I really don’t like about my life can be traced back to my own procrastination and risk avoidance and money can’t fix that. My largest source of stress at the moment is the huge pile of unfinished patient notes in my inbox and money can’t fix that either. Money would allow me to pay off all my student loans and buy a house but as much as I have a lot of student loans I don’t consider them a serious problem in my life. So yeah, more money would be nice but wouldn’t improve my life significantly.
The only problem I have that’s worth speaking of is needing to find a place to live with more space (we are a couple with an infant in a small one-bedroom). That’s hardly a problem, more of a sub-ideal situation that we are slowly saving to fix.
But sure, buy me a house. DC is balls expensive, but $600k should let is buy a decent house in a decent neighborhood.
Lets see
Pay off my student loans
Surgery to help me breathe better.
Anti-tiredness medicine
Startup capital for a business idea.
Maybe some money for a house?
If you can’t find a job in IT with $10 million to put towards training, certifications or even forming your own startup, maybe you should pick a different career?
No. I have plenty of money, and it cannot stop the advance of old age nor incurable progressive blindness. The only thing money can do for me is make me richer, with correct investments, which I have no interest in doing. That is not a problem that needs to be addressed.
I want however much money it takes to make my son not have a stroke 3 years ago. Every other problem in my life is trivial pissy shit compared to that.
$50,000.00 would allow me to make some desperately needed repairs and improvements to my home, which I already own. Then I could sell it and buy something I like better for less money. This would allow me to retire now instead of in 4 years.
I don’t have any problems that money could fix, I don’t have any problems at the moment either. However that doesn’t mean I would turn down a million bucks if someone offered it or I win the lottery.
$35,000 would pay off every nickel of debt that my husband and I have - mortgage, an outstanding hospital bill, catch up everything we’re behind on (a month on one thing, $100 on something else, etc.) $40K would give me some room to breathe and quit worrying whether I can juggle everything if Tony continues to be unable to work, or to take care of the girls so I can work. $45K would let me quit worrying about our vehicles - the “new” one is the '99 Suburban, and I’m constantly on alert. Does the transmission sound funny? Does that tire look a little low? Does my son’s '96 Tacoma need a tune-up, or is it something major?
But my biggest worry right now is my husband’s health, and he’s already getting the best care around. No amount of money will fix that, and it scares me.
I’d like about $50k. Enough to pay off our debt, buy a car with cash, and give us a down payment on a house. But $15k would let us pay off our debt, which I guess is the biggest *single *issue.
Possibly, but not necessarily. Because it is a medical issue that is poorly researched, it would probably ultimately take millions to get that research.
My second biggest problem could definitely be dealt with using money, and probably just $10,000 or so. Though more would help with further problems.
No amount of money is going to solve climate change when there are people vested in opposing any change. And it’s not just my most serious problem, it’s everyone’s.
Somewhere between $10,000 and $25,000 would save our home from looming foreclosure. I’m not sure of the amount because we have a 1st and 2nd mortgage and every time we go to court either this one has more legal fees and/or the other one has renegotiated for a smaller number. We live on Social Security and for health reasons can longer work, so the money needed is beyond us.
