I’ve never seen _anybody_ who wouldn’t look a little better with some modicum of makeup. Gender excluded. Men should wear makeup and pluck those shitty eyebrows, too. So sure, the girl in the OP may look “better” with a little makeup. So would the OP. So would I. ---

The best thing she could do for herself would be to smile. No one looks pretty with a sour look on their face. Granted, she wasn’t in a smiling situation when that pic was taken, but if someone took a shot of her when she was relaxing with friends and smiling, she’d be a different girl. ---

We’re used to seeing photographs of women with full makeup, whitened teeth, and tightly plucked brows. She has none of these things. Her appearance wouldn’t be sparking comment if she did. She \*does \*do her hair, hip hip hooray. ---

Strictly speaking, the “right makeup artist” could make her look like [some kind of a lobster-like creature,](http://www.themakeupgallery.info/fantasy/index.htm) if you wanted. And the lady in question looks perfectly—bafflingly, even—_fine_, to me. I mean, standards and opinions of “attractiveness” can vary, of course, but this doesn’t exactly seem like a case for a major engineering brainstorming session, here. ---

There was nothing conventionally out of place with any element. Possibly is it just perception and expectation as you and others indicate. ---

I think the difference is that nobody is saying “Oh no, George Bush is not attractive! What does he need to do to become attractive to me?!?!” The problem is not saying a particular women is unattractive, it’s the idea that this is somehow a problem that needs to be fixed.
