If we expected all posters to use search engines rather than GQ, this would be a suckass boring place. When I post a GQ question, I want more than just an answer! I want commentary, debate, snarkiness, condescension, question hijacking, spinoff threads, and the potential for moderator intervention! Search engines are boring! ---

Back before he was driving me nuts, I commented in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=289200&highlight=spring+ears) that I kept reading his name as “Sping Ears”, which brought forth the people who thought it was actually “Spring Ears.” Anyway, I agree that GQ would be pretty dead if it weren’t for questions that could classify as easily searchable. I mean, with that kind of thinking, there is no need for teachers, either. Just hand the kids the book and let em figure it out on their own. ---

I gotta say, I’m quite pleased with the recent trend of Liberal and Reeder hijacking _every thread they see_ in order to make everyone talk about them instead of the thread subject! :rolleyes: At any rate, thanks, NotCrazy, for posting this. That GQ thread that set you off had me seething (as might be obvious from my responses). spingears is a complete fucking jackass as far as I can tell. I’m not sure if the limited English proficiency means that some of the tone he’s trying for doesn’t quite translate, but in that thread he was just a straight up dick to the OP, drawing completely unfounded conclusions. And no matter how many times it was pointed out, he didn’t seem to understand the basic idea that conclusions ought to be based on some actual knowledge of a situation. Dude’s an engineer, I think, so it makes me a little nervous about the buildings I walk into . . . ---
