# Could you do a little enhancing to the signature edit feature, please?

I can understand why most of the edit functions are NO:

but why can’t we alter the color, size, font, or alignment?

In general, the point is to avoid having things that detract from the message of your post. That’s why images aren’t allowed, the smileys aren’t animated, etc. Sigs are supposed to show up only once in a thread, because it’s felt they aren’t really germaine to the discussion. Allowing for sigs that have font changes, colors, alignments, etc., would encourage creative posters to emphasize the signature, to the point where it might overwhelm the message.

Which on some boards is exactly what we see.
In fact, I don’t much care for sigs at all (I use mine as a typing shortcut only). I also wish they’d get rid of the damned “Regards” mini-sigs, which I can’t block.

Amen. Plus, in responding to such posts, you have to cut out the signature because the signature is not a part of what you’re responding to. And primitive text boxes like these, in Windows, always want to pull in the goddam bracket when you’re trying to highlight just the signature to delete it. I’ve even had people (okay, one person) who signs his frigging name to each of his posts, but doesn’t want me to call him by that name. Only his user name. Something about it making him feel icky or something. Well, I mean damn.

then why, when the “quick reply” button is hit, and you’re directed to the quick, the default is “don’t quote the post” and “do show signature”. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

I believe the default on sigs, even in quick reply, is whatever you have your own default set at. For instance, I have my sig turned off, so the “show signature” box in quick reply is blank.

I do find it weird that clicking the reply button below a post doesn’t automatically check the quote checkmark. Isn’t it SOP for us to quote whoever we’re responding to?
