I love my wife and we have an outstandingly passionate relationship. That said, she’s a Canadian citizen and finds there are many things more correct with their system than the U.S.'s (one year of paid maternity leave, subsidized healthcare, extended unemployment payments, stringent gun restrictions, etc.) I’m a right-leaning small l libertarian who believes most social programs should be eliminated, not expanded. I think firearms ownership and competence should be a civil requirement, not just a protected right. I think the federal government should provide for physical infrastructure, negotiate treaties, fight (legally declared) wars and settle inter-state disputes and that’s about it. While there are a number of things we do agree on politically, such as exceptionally strict southern border security and fortification, abortion rights and the like, we’re polar opposites on a lot of issues and downright hate some of each other’s views. That’s why politics are discussed at the kitchen table and the rest of the house is open for sex. They’re completely unrelated and neither impacts the other. ---

You are describing my relationship with my wife who I have been very happily married to for 11 years now. Me - work in Defense, conservative, invests, ahates capital gains taxes, and hates all things Democrat Her - works in healthcare, free spirit, spends, and hates all things Republican The sex? The editors of Penthouse would blush if I described it here. We discuss politics all the time and point out the flaws in each other’s arguments, but it’s a healthy discussion that doesn’t get in the way of our ‘real lives’. We do both agree that all politicians are scum no matter what the party. I really do hate my wife’s political views because I pay our taxes and regularly remind her that she wouldn’t have the opinions she has if the tax money had to come out of her “shopping fund”. As you might guess, she tells me I’m full of it. ---

The man I love more than the world and who asked me to marry him last November rescinded his offer in April because of our political differences. He’s libertarian (strongly), I’m incredibly…not. I didn’t have a problem with the fact that we discussed politics heatedly sometimes but always managed to find a way to either find agreement, or agree to disagree. He, obviously, felt that our differences would poison our relationship. I am still recovering from the shock of his decision. ---

If she’s able to talk about politics while we’re having sex, I’m doing something wrong. 😃 Yeah, I could have (and have had) sex with someone who I absolutely disagreed with, but I’m sure I could not have a long term relationship. Ironically, having sex with someone you don’t particularly like can be really hot. That’s when you get those anger and dominance dynamics that make sex more like wrestling with a mind-blowing orgasm finish. ---

Absolutely, 100% not. Said with complete confidence, and with no doubt. No, there is less-than-zero percent chance that I would ever have sex with someone whose political views I despise. There is only one person in this world who I personally know and whose political views (along with damn near all other views) I despise, and that is my brother-in-law. Aside from not being gay and the kinkiness of fucking my sister’s husband; he’s too old and overweight for me. That and I despise his political and other views. Unless “having sex with” means ramming red-hot poker up someone’s ass, and then I could enjoy the task. ---

I’m not that big a fan of sex outside of a relationship, and I probably wouldn’t date someone whose views were too different than mine. But for just a sexual fling, yeah it wouldn’t matter. I once had a brief sexual fling with a guy who I discovered was racist. But he was awesome in the sack and I had sex with him a few times after I found out about his views. So yeah, if they don’t talk about anything except dirty stuff in bed. ---
