If it was up to me, instead of executing people I’d have them working their asses off for their meals in any way they’re fit to work. To many of them working hard is a fate worse than death. Executing people doesn’t do a damned thing to discourage crime, it doesn’t improve the country in any way I can see.

The fate worse then death theory doesn’t pan out.

It is incredibly easy to kill yourself if you really want to.

So unless you’re totally restrained you’d kill yourself because it would be the easier option.

As to the deterrance or not of the D.P. I couldn’t say but as another poster has already said, those who have received it have NEVER reoffended, what ever the circumstances.

Personally if somebody tried to hurt, kill or rape someone I loved then I would have no hesitation on killing the person; regardless of the personal consequences.

So they commit suicide. I think they should be allowed to do that if they so choose, as I think anyone should be allowed. I don’t think it would be all that common anyway. Even those in horrendous circumstances seem to have the will to live. Besides I don’t mean to abuse them, I mean to have them work like the rest of the world works, for their food and shelter. Most prisons have such programs but I don’t know if they’re just given busy work or actually earning their food.

Personally if one wishes to kill another person for revenge in my own opinion it is wrong. Many people are in prison right now for acting on the need for revenge. I don’t think it needs to be encouraged.

I don’t see anything wrong with recovering organs from executed prisoners, provided they’re healthy enough to qualify as donors. Of course, Larry Niven warned us about that practice, so we’d better proceed cautiously.

I don’t think that there’s any real chance that prisoners will make suitable donors. Many of them are drug users, whose organs are not very healthy, they may have HIV, either through drug use, or through prison sex, and the lethal injection might fill their organs with poison.

That ain’t gonna be a problem for those hypothetically executed by firing squad. The heart area is gonna be a mess, because that’s where they pin the target. Figure that will use up the heart, one lung, and half a rack of ribs or so.

Shotgun. Back of the head. You could even put it on a rack hooked to a timer or something.

Taiwan’s process uses a pistol round “aimed at the brain stem under the ear if the prisoner consents to organ donation.” They even get sedated first. The People’s Republic of China just uses a hollow point rifle round (an 7.62x39 from an AK-47, IIRC).
