FYI, I’m fighting whatever bug is going around. Right now it looks like I’m at the tail end (I feel much better today than yesterday), but if I don’t feel better (in particular, my sinuses) by Friday, I won’t be able fly. So at this point, I still plan to be out there, but if I can’t I’m sorry. ---

Hrrm we still haven’t covered how people are going to meet up and stuff on friday afternoon. I’ll be getting in around midnight on Thrusday (tomarrow WHOOT!)… And trust me, I’ll be drinking hard 🙂 I’m all for cheaper drinks (being as I’m not a light weight). So, whats up with friday afternoon? ---

That is, until/unless my mobile phone rings with a better offer. I believe another, possibly larger, group will be at the (allegedly pricey) Doubletree. That’s about it for the public plans I’ve seen, although there are doubtless several private meetings planned elsewhere. ---

Ah, 24 hours from now, I’ll be relaxing on-board Amtrak. Hitting Chicago at about 8:30am. Going to the hotel, taking a nap. Getting a shower. Et cetera. I **AM** , however, still trying to figure out what to do Friday night. I don’t know if the Dopers I’m meeting at the airport have Friday night plans. If so, maybe I’ll tag along with one of them. If not, maybe we’ll have our own little _soiree_ at the hotel. It’s up to them, really. And anyone who may be willing to invite me to hang with them Friday night. ---

So I’m searching around Lexis for really stupid things to entertain me. I go through Illinois statutes and caselaw searching for key words. I mean, this whole thread seems to have turned into a search for ways to break the law. Don’t worry. I’m not going to tell you how to break any laws in Chicago. Though I do have to say you guys do some really funny things to animals up there. Anyway, two of the cases caught my eye. This one is People v. Schillaci, 171 Ill. So far in preparation for this momentous occasion I have: Uhhhhhh I washed some clothes? I’m starting to vibrate. Not much, not quickly, but some. I will wake up tomorrow feeling like horsecrap. I will be driven to the airport by my lovely husband and three beautiful children. They will ask me eight billion questions, and ask me at least three million times a) where I’m going and b) “why can’t I go?” I will spend an hour and a half paranoid that I will somehow look exactly like an international spy/terrorist/agent provocateuse/harlot and be pulled aside by security and stuck in a dark room for eight days with nothing to eat but honey-roasted peanuts and a full complement of carbonated beverages. I will finally get onto the airplane and spend the entire flight paranoid that we are going to be hijacked to Idaho by militant potato farmers and forced to work in their fields for 18 hours a day under the cruel sunlight, living on a diet of home fries and vodka. We will make our final approach to O’Hare and I will become convinced that I will not be able to find anyone I know, and I will spend the entire weekend wandering the airport like a schizophrenic baggage handler. Then I’ll meet up with people I know and things will be hunky-dory. 😃 (I’m hoping, of course, that by mentioning all of these possible Things Going Wrong, they won’t be mere virtue of the fact that I’m onto the Universe’s sick, perverse little games.) ---

OG DRIVE! Leaving for Quix’s today around 6 or so PM. Expect to get there between midnight and 2 AM. Expect to sleep until we wake up and arrive mostly awake in Chicago … some time. I dunno yet when Quix will wanna leave. Friday night: meet people, watch said people get plastered. Saturday morning: meet more people, observe hangover central. Saturday afternoon: more of the same. Saturday night: dinner. more of the same. Sunday: haus auf jarbaby for food’n’such. Leave chicago, drive home. Whenever I get home: sleep for 24 hours straight. ---

I have sent e-mails to all the people who have told me they will for whatever reason be parking their cars at the Embassy/Doubletree. If you have not received an e-mail, and have a car that you’ll need to park, please e-mail me so I can get parking cards ready. If you don’t parking will be $12.00/nite at either of the hotels. As for Friday, I think we should plan on starting informally at the hotel bars. (I can sign for at least one round at the Embassy)There are some neighborhood bars relatively close by( 3 - 4 miles without getting on the expressway) that have pool tables, triva games and music (I can’t vouch for good music, but music.)
