(Hey, that’s a $2200 watch, if you consider the two year contract!) Some of the fake watches are amazing-if built with a good quality Swiss movement (e.g. ETA), they are almost as good as the originals. Of course, the chief value of ultra-expensive watches is prestige..so buying a fake kinda negates that. ---

Couldn’t care less. I wouldn’t go out to buy a real or fake Rolex but, if I was somehow stranded in China with an incredible need to buy a watch, I wouldn’t care that I was buying a fake Rolex from any standpoint of hurting Rolex or “insulting” those who could afford it. I think paying a bunch of money on half that stuff is stupid and will laugh behind your back anyway so you can laugh behind mine for buying a fake one and we’ll call it even. That’s if I had any interest in them. Frankly, I have no interest in the label at all. I’ll agree with the dilution thing though even if I don’t care about it. My wife has some knock-off purse with the Chanel logo and I just assume every “Chanel” purse I see if a knock-off. Not that I’d be any more impressed to learn it was authentic. ---

But knowing it pisses off people who paid full price presents a real incentive, I have to say. ---

A doctor in the hospital where my father works annoyed all the RNs by always making a big deal of removing his Rolex before going into the OR. After my father and two colleagues put fake Rolexes right next to it one time, he never did it again… ---

Meh, I’ve been poor, I’ve been richer. Once you have that fifth car, and the second yacht, and the third house, and you want that ‘shoppers high’, but you’ve had steak - again - for the 15th time this month. You just have to drop some coin on a bauble. And sometimes you just want other plebes to know you have some dough you have nothing better to do with. 😉 They’re just stimulating a different part of the economy. ---
