While it is, do they actually learn anything from it? I’m just fed up with anything like this actually mattering.

The affair, or the fact that he likes Coldplay?

If she had just not reacted, no one would have noticed.

I know too many _family members_ like this guy.

These things get attention because they hit a nerve. Especially in our current context where rich assholes are having a Renaissance.

😂

I’m not a Coldplay fan. My husband once asked me, “If you could eliminate any band, would it be Coldplay or The Dave Matthews Band?”

My response?

“Nickelback.”

Yeah. They should have played it cool and we’d never know. It would be tough not to panic in that situation though.

I’m sure you’re right. I like to imagine that anyone he tries to date in the future will easily find out about this, but I suppose money can make this kind of shit go away eventually. From the sound of his “apology” statement, he’s still not accepting responsibility and will probably continue to blame others for exploiting his private life. In the end it’s all just noise of course, but we don’t often get to see karma writ small or large.

Having some passing familiarity with this culture, the wives know they are being cheated on. The cardinal sin here is making it public.

As already mentioned, the apology statement was a fake. He as well as the company haven’t responded yet other than to say that the apology statement wasn’t him.

> I think it’s that greedy CEOs have been getting lots of hate recently, and HR is in general known for being cruel and callous against employees, so this is, in many people’s minds, the ideal thing to cheer for.

More specifically, I’d say, that HR is the group that’s in charge of telling everyone to not sleep with anyone else in the company and to DEFINITELY never sleep with your boss/subordinate.

After all, let’s say that he fires her because of this. Lawsuit from her.
Or, he figures that he can’t fire her. So, is she qualified to hold the position, or he just thought she was hot? Lawsuit from the investors.

It’s always a mess, and it’s HR’s job to explain just that thing.

Both are quite shaming but at least the affair can be explained away as a mid-life crisis. I can’t think of any reason for anyone to be at a Coldplay concert. The combination of the two shames is an inexplicable conjunction.

HR’s role is to _protect the company from liability_. A C-suite exec having an affair with a director is unsavory but neither of them are likely to sue the company. The CEO can make a statement of contrition, the HR rep can be shuttled off to one of his golf buddy’s companies to do the same thing somewhere else. It’s all an engaging distraction from the rapid rise of autocracy, increase in warfare and nuclear proliferation, uncertain global economic outlook, and spiraling environmental crises (multiple) as the human species continues to push past planetary boundaries like it is a game of croquet. But hey, [you can’t be worried about everything](https://youtu.be/PdSi9NW5u3E?si=mRNgQd_Nc0op4eBA).

They’ve got a strong basis for some kind of mental incapacity claim here.

At the first company I worked for, the married CEO was sleeping with the head of HR, and eventually he was fired for that or other reasons (I never learned). The financial performance was pretty poor, and home office in NYC might not have known about the shenanigans.

At the second company I worked for, the married CEO was sleeping with the head of HR; he divorced his wife, married the HR lady, and they eventually retired to Arizona. That also had a head office in NYC, and who knows what they knew.

The next two companies I worked for didn’t seem to have any of that.

I’m not seeing anyone out there saying this is some big huge news story. It just, well, kinda funny. And as shitty as the world has been lately, it’s nice to focus on something kinda funny.

Dunno about anyone else, but there HAD to be other people at that show who recognized at least one of them. OTOH, it probably wouldn’t have gone viral the way it has.

As for the boss getting his pants pulled down in public, I’ve told the story before of the very unpopular woman boss I had in the late 1990s who, several years later, was in a near-fatal car accident and had a TV station and the newspaper do big, sappy stories about the accident and her recovery. I heard later, more than once from more than one person, that all the reporters’ e-mail boxes crashed because of the volume of feedback they got, about what kind of person she really was. I actually found out about it at a pharmacy association meeting; people laughed, and AFAIK nobody signed her get-well card.

It was amusing the first time I heard about it. (Actually, not even then. I don’t find it particularly funny. I don’t find it tragic or sad, either. It’s just boring to me. I don’t give two shits about some cheater getting caught in public.) But it’s non-stop on my socials. Non-stop. What about those Epstein files? What about defuning public radio? Just this garbage.

No. Someone who was there posted it because it was funny. It started to go viral. Internet sleuths figured out who it was. It went crazy viral.

There was a similar one a couple of years ago with a couple of college kids at a football game. It was funny and people figured out who they were and they were legitimately just friends and it was no big deal.
