# Couple refuse to sign marriage license over "gender neutral" terms

The only thing left for total irony overload is for one of the couple to be incapacitated and the other to then be denied the right to make medical decisions on the basis that they are not a family member.

Can those of us who aren’t married get a non-marriage certificate? I want a certificate stating my civil status!
