Been Hanging about on [playlist.com](http://www.playlist.com) (Which I love BTW)
Found Fire and Rain covered by John Denver, and Whiter Shade of Pale done by Don Everly. I love the latter espically, It’s Haunting and powerful, (Youtube has a version [here](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7UB_ZlzCGY).)

I don’t really love (or even like) Metallica but their version of Whiskey in the Jar is pretty damn good.

the brilliant green (who I may have mentioned as, like, my favourite band, ever) did covers of Blur’s Song 2 and the Kinks’ All Day and All of the Night for their most recent album (and associated singles)… Neither of them changes the arrangement, much, but they’re still worth listening to - Tommy is not Ray Davies or Damon Albarn, and she’s enough not them to make the songs worth listening to.
In her solo project, Tommy february6, she’s also covered (with much more variation in the arrangement - Tommy february is 80s-style pop) the Nolan Sisters’ I’m In the Mood For Dancing, Dusty Springfield’s I Only Want to Be With You, and Frankie Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You.

On Econium, various bands each cover a Zep tune. Stone Temple Pilot’s Dancin’ Days is by far my favorite.

Do you have to love the original version, the cover artist, and the cover artist’s version?
Let’s see… Jimi Hendrix’s version of “All Along the Watchtower” is probably one of the archetypical examples of this.
The Ramones’ cover of the Searchers’ “Needles and Pins”.
Blind Faith’s cover of Buddy Holly’s “Well All Right”.
Joe Cocker’s cover of “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window” and Richie Havens’ version of “Here Comes the Sun” are two rare examples of covers of Beatles tunes that I like almost as much as the originals.
I’m not particularly a Smithereens fan, but I saw them in concert recently and enjoyed the selections they played from _The Smithereens Play “Tommy”_.

Metallica’s cover of Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page.” Also, Rod Stewart has recorded a cover of “It’s A Heartache” which was originally recorded by Bonnie Tyler. It was the first hit for Tyler, who at the time was likened to a female version of Rod Stewart.
Billy Idol was asked to record “Don’t You Forget (About Me)” for the motion picture _The Breakfast Club_ but declined. It was eventually recorded by Simple Minds. Idol, however, later recorded the song for his greatest hits album.
