Covert US program tried to create dissent, foment rebellion in Cuba

Hallucinex, your not actually suggesting what I think your suggesting are you?

No way are SD mods working for any known intelligence agency

I thought US relations with Cuba had improved slightly since Raul Castro took over? It’s just a matter of time and he’ll be gone.

It seems pointless to inflame relations now.

Yawn. This ain’t nothin’. Meaning, it is nothing. Everybody will think exactly what they want to about the US, and this won’t change anything.
Also, I’m embarrassed about it. Not the activity, but, the ham-handedness of it, and getting caught. The US was trying to bring down a repressive regime, and screwed up.

Just the break the McCain machine was waiting for!

Why? What are they going to do - un-friend us?

Shodan

Between peacefully normalizing relations with Cuba, and secretly aiding a violent revolution with an unknown outcome(remember what happened last time?), I pick the former over the latter.

And you?

The others posting in this thread, apparently.

I agree that, even if this scheme had worked, the revelation that it took place wouldn’t make us friends with those that came into power since they weren’t let in on the plan. They would never trust us after that.

One of the direct backlashes of this scheme is that it hampers efforts to advance technology in that country.

Anybody who wants to prevent Cuba from either becoming a haven for violent drug cartels (i.e. Mexico) or a location to base missiles and weapon systems ninety miles off of the continental United States. I’m sorry, haven’t we been here before? By attempting to control and influence Cuban politics to maintain a ‘friendly’ (i.e. corrupt) government and give unrestricted access to corporations and organized crime to fleece Cuba, we alienated the Cuban public to the point that they supported a bloody revolution bringing the Castros to power and allowing the Soviet Union to base nuclear weapons and ships there.

Jesus Christ, it’s like Marin Walker and Ernest May sat down and drew up a playbook for how to recreate the antics of the Cold War in the current world stage and the United States is following it play by play.
