COVIDtest.gov is up and taking orders (site for free covid tests - program restarted Sept 2023),)

I hope your doctor broke it to you gentler than that!

I ordered mine on the first day they were available and received them two weeks ago.

We still have them, because I laid down the law to the other adults in my family, who sometimes exhibit a childlike curiosity and love of experimentation.

The Covid tests are not a toy. Even though we don’t need them at this very moment, we might need them in the future. Don’t check the dog for Covid just to see what happens. Don’t open one and pee on it just to see what happens. Do not run any experiments involving the Covid tests and the microwave just to see what happens. If we haven’t used them by the time they expire, then we can celebrate and do all sorts of crazy stuff with the Covid tests. But now is not the time.

So far, so good. My fingers are crossed.

We also picked up a bunch of free masks at the drugstore. They are really good N95 masks that are shaped so they are held away from the face, making it easier to breathe. We like them better than any of the other masks we have.

Now you tell me not to pee on the test strip.

Shit! This means I’ve been sticking the keto strip up my nose!

I just got two of my four tests today. The other two are coming on Saturday the 26th.

My tests arrived today. Expiration date listed as August 2nd.

Does anyone know if the COVIDtest.gov masks can be ordered more than once?

I seem to remember early on that it was a 4-tests-per-month set-up. But I haven’t seen anything since about ordering more. I ordered our first set in January on the first day orders were being taken, and got them fairly promptly. Haven’t ordered any for February yet.

I assume you mean ‘tests’? It was a one-time per household thing. Additional tests are supposed to be covered by insurance. I have yet to figure out how my insurance is handling it though. They have no incentive to make it easy I suppose.

Finally got my tests. They took a magical mystery tour route.

Shipped on February 22 from Atlanta, GA. Also shipped on Feb 23 from Atlanta. Arrived at Atlanta on Feb 24. Arrived at Atlanta on Feb 25 at 9:46PM AND at 10:56PM. Arrived at Atlanta on Feb 26. Departed Atlanta on Feb 27. Arrived at Springfield, MA (I live in PA) on Feb 28. Departed Springfield, MA on Feb 28. Arrived at Hartford, CT on March 1. Arrived at Lehigh Valley, PA Distribution Center on March 2. Out for delivery today from local post office.

Got them today. One pack of four tests.

FYI, during the State of the Union address, the president announced that a second set of four tests would be available for each address. The covidtest.gov website says, "Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests. If you haven’t already, order yours today.

Starting next week, every home in the U.S. will be able to order an additional set of 4 tests."

I’m not reading all of the responses but is anyone else bothered that many, if not most of these tests, are coming from China? I mean isn’t this kind of ironic all things considered? I know one friend has some that came from South Korea but most seem to be from China.

I ordered my second round of tests on Tuesday. I already have a notification that they’ll be delivered today. I don’t know if I got lucky relative to the first round, or if there’s just much lower demand right now.

I ordered my second set Tuesday also. No word yet on delivery

Wow, I was just notified by Informed Delivery that my package is out for delivery!

I ordered ours (2nd order) on Tuesday, a confirmation email followed by a shipping update states they’ll arrive Monday.

Everything is made in China nowadays. If you don’t trust stuff made in China, you don’t trust modern life.

No. Everything is not made in China nowadays. Much is and this is an issue for quality. I’d say 90% of everything sold on Amazon is Chinese made and much of that is junk. I finally gave up their junk.

Well, no, I don’t.

I take part in it anyway. I use stuff made in China, and stuff made elsewhere by people who I suspect don’t give a damn, and I sometimes buy canned fish even though I can’t tell whether it was caught by slave labor, though I buy a lot less of it than I used to. But that doesn’t mean I trust it, any more than I trust “modern life” in general to not come apart in a nasty fashion at any particular corner at any particular moment; that means that I feel, relatively, stuck. When I’ve got a reasonable option to buy something that’s made by people who I think do give a damn and who I have some reasonable hope are getting paid at least bearable wages and not throwing way too much junk in the air and the water, I do that.

Yes, I know. I can thank “modern life”, for, probably, my having lived this long, and for being mostly able to see, and for a lot of other stuff. But it has its downsides.

I ordered mine yesterday 3/9, and received a notification that delivery is scheduled for Monday 3/14.

As notified, they showed up in my mailbox this afternoon.
