My wife followed the story since last weekend and has been helpful in explaining the meta-timeline. So I now understand that there were early still photos and video clips that made it appear to be something much more malignant. Thus the real problem has been a stubborn refusal in some quarters to acknowledge that their initial impression was erroneous (similar to the Mike Brown shooting in Ferguson). Still not a good look at this point, even if the original reaction was justified based on incomplete info.
Weird you chose this event and Ferguson rather than say a migrant caravan, Benghazi, or “her emails” (which had much more serious consequences) to make this point.
You are comparing the drumming to things the kids didn’t do(police brutality, etc). The appropriate comparison is between the drumming and what the kids did.
Baltimore has a police department and government where “blacks” are heavily represented. Is there a reason they can’t deal with racism in the ranks?
Finally, at long last, we get a chance to fully understand the complex and nuanced inner workings of the Slackerinc mind. Please don’t interrupt. K, tx, bye.
That explains a lot. I was wondering what kind of worldview one has to adopt to see MAGA hats as a fun fashion choice or something, ignoring that the hat has an actual speaking part. Plain old centrism doesn’t allow for that.
It’s not a comparison about what the kids did. It’s a comparison about the reaction of the right (and SlackerInc) to the whole event. Stuff like a murder, broken bones, pepper spray, etc don’t merit one one-hundredth of the response a white, privieged, Trump supporting, smirking kid having someone drum near him gets. Just like the over-reaction without actual facts or reality of the migrant caravan, Benghazi, and “her emails” doesn’t get mentioned, but the slight rush to judgment about a tense meeting of upset indigenous people and white conservatives turns into this.
No, the drummer was hoping to provoke the kid into throwing the first punch. Which didn’t happen - the kid and his compatriots didn’t do anything wrong or unjustified. Hence the need for the drummer and his allies to lie and misrepresent and slant the coverage.
The drummer tried to get something started to have something he could use. That didn’t work, so the various SJWs and their allies in the MSM had to work with what they had.
Damn, you a snitch. That’s all you white, cross-burning conservatives do is snitch, equivocate, snitch, equivocate, snitch, followed by more snitching. First thing, I’m much smarter than you’ll ever be. Second, as for “black people” (omg!) - the idea that I’m African-American is your assumption. I will not confirm or deny that piece mainly because I don’t want you hoes to do some white shit like doxxing me or my loved ones or arriving to my family’s home with hoods and tiki torches. I’ve been very careful to identify myself as a person of color and not as a specific race or ethnicity. You’ll find no post of mine where I specifically claim I am black or African-American. Lastly, you’re just a mouthpiece for white supremacy, your presence strengthens my argument that this a white space for white folks to channel their hatred against minorities. This forum, in my opinion, is a curious mix between* NPR’s Fresh Air* and Mississippi Burning. You fit right in here.
ETA: Now that I think about it, I did a write personal account of racism that I experienced with my wife and her whack coworkers. It was implied (but not explicitly stated) that I am African-American. But, in my defense, Little Nemo and the rest of you hoes claimed I was making the story up. Because, you know, people of color are liars, hustlers, and schemers. Nothing that comes our from lips is the truth, just lies. You know how you white do.
Is this how far we’ve swung in the opposite direction? There are “compatriots” doing a tomahawk chop on the video. There are others surrounding, jumping around, and dancing mockingly while the Native American is playing his drum. The compatriots are chanting at the group while One kid says “its not rape if you enjoy it”. Another video shows, apparently, the same boys harassing a pair of woman walking near them. If that’s “nothing wrong” then, well, then it’s you being you, actually.
Grand Dragon Shodan, shut the fuck up. You have no evidence that proves that the Phillips was “hoping to provoke the kid into throwing the first punch”. You’re just making shit up (as you always do). But, even if this fiction was true, let me tell you something that you never learned in the real-world: You - and only* you *- are responsible for your own actions. I mean, really, do you beat the shit out of your wife and tell her afterwards “I only beat you because you provoked me?” or “I only beat you because of the Black Israelites made me angry”. That’s some white shit right here. Those unsupervised (which, I’m sure, you can related to) children had the choice to move away or to step aside. They also had the choice to remove their hat or to defuse the situation. They chose not to. As another poster said, we have a brain that is wired to read human faces, and that kid was smug, unremorseful, self-righteous, and arrogant.
I hold our side to a different standard, obviously. But FTR:
—The fearmongering over the migrant caravan was typical, despicable Trump/FOX demagoguery. (Although I do wonder why they can’t just stay in Mexico.)
—Benghazi, like Whitewater, was a huge fuss made about very little.
—“But my emails” was an awesome tweet. Comey probably swung the election to Trump before getting fired for his trouble. “Lock her up” is ridiculous and offensive. I love Hillary, proudly supported her over Bernie (go check my 2016 posts).
Okay?
Try reading my ACTUAL posts. FFS:
:dubious:
Certainly not. All I am saying is that in a highly charged protest situation like this, it is Phillips who crossed a line that it is imperative not to cross. His actions are less defensible than anyone else’s here. No matter how obnoxious or douchey or homophobic anyone else got, they kept their hands to themselves—and that is crucially important.
Sure. I just think picking minor things on one side as examples to get upset over while ignoring the huge problems with the other, especially for someone of your political persuasion, reeks of trolling.
After having been subjected to the mockery and assholishness of a group of white, privileged teens, Mr. Phillip’s drum scraped the kids winter, padded coat once, maybe twice. If the bare grazing of a coat with a hand drum is that huge of a deal to you, especially in light of the other examples I gave that haven’t been adopted by the right, the we have a huge difference in priorities.
