Cowboy Bebop newbie questions

MmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmSpikemmmmmmmmmmm.

In the dark corners of my mind, where nobody dare venture–not even me–I am writing Spike(CB)/Spike(BtVS) slash. And no, the fact that one is cartoon character and the other is a vampire is not stopping me!

I started watching Cowboy Bebop because of my husband, and was instantly hooked. I love every episode. I think it’s brilliant. I wish I could afford to buy the DVDs, but I’m poor and they are pretty expensive. Is the Movie ever going to be released outside of LA and New York?

Am I the only one who thought the ambiguously gay she-man was pretty hot?

No.

I love Cowboy Bebop and have seen just about all of the episodes, but there’s something that I’m not really clear on.

How do the gates work? Is it a limited hyperspace kind of system or what? How far can they go? They seem to only be in the solar system (which is one of the things I like about the show), but could the gates take you to Alpha Centauri? The galactic core? The Large Magellanic Cloud? And what happened to the gate on Earth?

The gates basically function like hyperspace superhighways; i.e., you get on and off at specific spots. We know they go at least as far out as Pluto (since there’s a penal colony there), and as far in as Venus (since there’s a colony there) but there’s no indication they go outside the immediate solar system.

As for the gate accident, it’s never explained 100% how or why it happened (which I like). Apparently, one of the earlier experiments with “gate” technology (which I guess was being conducted either on or near the moon) went awry, and a massive explosion resulted–taking out a sizeable chunk of the moon and creating an “asteroid belt” between the moon and Earth. It’s mentioned that people still live on Earth (though underground, to avoid the constant rain of moon-debris), but the “gate accident” was apparently what sparked the spread of civilization to other planets.

Definitely not. Gren is my favorite minor character. And the music in Jupiter Jazz (parts 1 & 2) was great…I like all of the music in CB, but I especially love the songs in those two episodes.

Yep. I saw it here in Dallas at the Angelika a few weeks ago. Just go into Yahoo! Movies and look for a theater in your area playing it.

If you go to the main site for Sony Picture’s release of Cowboy Bebop the Movie it tells you which cities have it. It’s a flash run site so I can’t link directly to it.

I’ts been playing here in Seattle for a month now, Very worth seeing.

I’m with you on that, JessEnigma. I’m not a jazz fan, but I loved the music in Cowboy Bebop. I would buy the cds but they’re way to expensive for me.

As for the editing, Cartoon Network actually showed more episodes on the first run then the Japanese did. Here’s a list of the first run in Japan. Notice they didn’t even show the conclusion the first time! I assume the last episode on that list is just a clip show with no relevance to the story.
