I have been asked to do an inventory of our office’s computers. One thing I have to keep track is the CPU speed (how many Mhz). In some of the computers, I can turn off and off and the black screen will rattle off some specs and among them the CPU speed. Yet, in others it doesn’t. I have tried checking in the control panel/system, but it doesn’t give me any specs. Where else can I look for this information w/i the computer? HELP! XicanoreX ---

If the systems use Windows NT, you can see a reasonable estimate of your system speed if you run windows Diagnostics, which you can find under administrative tools. ---

You can run dxdiag.exe, if the computers are using directx. You really need to post at least the operating system here. ---

The processor speed is listed in setup. ---

When the system is in it’s first boot up stages, depending on the BIOS, you will see (generally at the bottom) how to get into setup (meaning the BIOS). In my case I have to hit the delete key while the system is testing the memory. Some ask you to hit the F1 key, etc… Go through the menus and look for the “clock speed” or “CPU” speed. That’s the best way to determine how fast your CPU is. If it starts loading Windows you need to do it again until you can hit the correct key! Usually that’s all there is to it. ---

Or if some of the computers are Macs, go to Apple System Profiler in the Apple Menu.
