Did she ever get the sketch back? Not sure I would have been inclined after that, but then I’d be stuck with a sketch of a crazy person.
The “Tuesday Morning” store in my old town abruptly closed, and I found out later that the reason was because the people who worked there were caught selling merchandise they had stolen from there on eBay. I’m sure there was a lot more to the story, but that’s what I heard.
My biggest problem with Craigslist, and its cousin Freecycle, is no-call no-shows. Some chapters will kick people out after a certain number, usually 3, but our local one doesn’t.
I still have it hanging on my wall. “Art with a story.”
Well, I can only speak for myself and most of the people I know. As far as Craigslist or any similar venue goes, usually if I’m selling something it’s because I need money and am embarrassed to do so. I am always nervous, and I have severe social anxiety any way (which is a primary reason I might need to sell something in the first place). My wife is the same way. Our kids outgrow clothes fast and we usually sell them to reinvest in new ones. She usually has panic attacks when trying to go to the stores that buy used kid stuff or whatever.
If I’m selling something, I just want to get the transaction over with and get my money with little fuss or personal interaction. I probably come off weird and nervous because I am.
Could stuff be stolen? Sure. You’d be surprised what you can come across in lots at overstock retailers or auctions, etc. I made a living for quite some time buying things from auctions and reselling them. There were always some odd $1 lots out there.
Some people could be nervous or shifty because they stole something and need drug money. Others need food or clothes for their kids, are selling something out desperation (of all sorts), or even just doing a one-off sale and nervous due to lack of experience, the fact that people get murdered responding to CL ads, many people will no-show you and/or ask you to drive 2 hours so they can “look at” a $10 item and so on.
