I was referring to the sorts of helmets that CoolHandCox was referring to, which auto racers wear. Apologies for the confusion.
I’m very skeptical the Buzz Lightyear helmet would help with the actual issue (brain hitting the inside of the skull when the head rapidly changes speed or direction) any better than current football helmets would. Yes, it puts some airspace between the helmet and the head, but I don’t see how it does anything to prevent the whiplash effect.
Frankly, I think that the only real solution to the brain injury issue in American football is radical changes to how the game is played, which would likely destroy the game’s fan base.
Ah, yeah, it’d be nearly impossible to make a helmet with thorough support which still allowed enough range of head motion to make it possible to play the game.
