Creepiest anthology TV series episodes?

The 1995-2002 Outer Limits reboot. Season 3 episode 9, called Tempests. I am forbidden from talking about it at home, it freaked my wife out so much. It involves alien “spiders” and hallucinations.

Ya know, I remember watching Night Gallery as a kid and thought that was the Bomb.

Well, I’ve been watching waaay too much day-time TV recently, and Night Gallery is a show that unfortunetly fits an empty time slot. Man, those are* Baaaaaad!* Terrible acting, horrible ‘special effects’ and just generally poor.

And they all seem to star or feature Gary Collins.

The original “Night Gallery” as originally aired WAS the bomb. Yes there were some silly Victor Buono stories, but for the most part they were top notch, with some really exceptionally scary episodes.

For some reason, they decided to “re-package” the show with old “The Sixth Sense” episodes for re-runs (not sure what idiot came up with that idea - the two shows weren’t even close). So what got aired as “Night Gallery” (re-runs) were actually these terrible “Sixth Sense” (starring Gary Collins) episodes. DO NOT CONFUSE these with the original “Night Gallery” stories !

You can get the original “Night Gallery” episodes on DVD, BTW. (You’ll have to scrounge through used VHS tape bins for “The Sixth Sense” episodes…)

The Boris Karloff hosted anthology “Thriller” had a number of super creepy episodes. One that stands out in my memory was “Pigeons From Hell,” about a zombie-like hag in a run down Louisiana bayou mansion.

Oh, I’ll have to look for that online. It was based on a Robert (Conan the Barbarian) (Lovecraft buddy) Howard short story.

Probably the most brilliant horror story ever written for television. The entire premise is spelled out by Serling before the story even begins and there is no twist ending. Yet it is one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen on any screen, large or small.

For anybody who may have missed it, here’s the sequel to “It’s A Good Life.” Cloris Leachman is back, as is Billy Mumy…and his real-life daughter.

I had no idea! Don’t even think I’ve heard of The Sixth Sense. This makes perfect sense, as I remember Night Gallery being pretty damn good. Thanks for that info.

Hot damn, it’s on YouTube! Now to wait for the sun to go down.

I hate to argue with so many of my horror-loving buddies, but I read the 1953 Jerome Bixby short story LONG before I saw the TZ episode, and the adaptation disappointed me.

Bixby never describes Anthony, leaving you with the impression that he is himself some actual monstrosity. The doctor screamed when he crawled out of the womb, and Anthony immediately did something awful to him.

Making the kid a relatively normal Billy Mumy kinda spoiled it for me.
