I saw that commercial last night, and was amazed that something so macabre would be treated as “cute.” I’ll bet it doesn’t run for very long. But then I also thought that profoundly creepy Burger King ad campaign wouldn’t be around for long. ---

This thread reminds me of how I came across this [uber-creepy Kinder egg commercial](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOFRIWx5F9c) a couple of years ago on youtube. I’ve probably posted about it here before. I wonder if the American banning of Kinder eggs was just backlash from this commercial! **DrDeth** , other folks apparently found Snuggles the Bear creepy, and [this commercial](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HXGIFPxbtk&feature=PlayList&p=3391725AFA44240A&index=0&playnext=1) (banned for awhile by the fabric softener folks) was the result. Good God, **Biggirl** , that Michelin commercial is gross. ---

That Shiny Suds commercial is brilliantly creepy. The skeevy Megan’s List dad who can finally see his daughter again because she turned 18? Just plain fucked up. And the Michelin one would have given me nightmares for a year when I was a kid. ---

I had to bring this thread back when I saw this ad campaign. I’m not sure it qualifies as ‘creepy’ more than it does [surreal & bizarre](http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/yrs-give-it-a-ponder-campaign-for-lg.html). Why does anyone think this is a good idea? ---

No, no…the Lipton ones are definitely creepy. Any scenario in which James Lipton is the least bit concerned about teens sexting is, by definition, creepy. ---

You know, with these things, it’s not so much their mere existence, or even their content, that’s creepy to me; heck, people come up with weird shit: Vanilla coke, quantum mechanics, Japan, to name but a few. No, it’s not that somebody came up with it that creeps me out – it’s that somebody else, or a group of somebodies, went ‘hey, yeah, that’s good, let’s run with this!’ That’s kind of where my core assumptions about the world around me just break down. I picture myself, in a darkened room, where some slightly dishevelled-looking marketing person has just concluded their presentation of an advert that features the Michelin Man slinging portions of his midsection at a car resulting in the resurrection of zombified roadkill, expecting a storm of disgust, outrage, and maybe a team of friendly, white-clad people to take the marketing person away, but instead, everybody else starts clapping, just as if this was a perfectly normal thing to happen. Like the world just worked that way. Like, maybe it’s me who got it wrong, and I just never noticed. ---
