Wasn’t the latter sung by Chubby Checker?

“Clearest Indication” by Great Big Sea. Used to reduce me to tears just because of how creepy and sad it seems. Admittedly, it is about the decay of a relationship, but it’s like the world ending quietly, while no one notices until it’s too late.

I second this. I’ve always thought this was a creepy stalker song.

As well as Urge Overkill’s “Girl, You’ll be a woman soon” which is creepier than the original IMHO.

I don’t know who it’s by, and I think it might not count since I don’t know who could hear this and NOT be creeped out by it, but that song about Little Red Riding Hood being everything that a Big Bad Wolf could want. I’ve always imagined this being the precursor to rape.

“I’m Going to Make You Sweat” by chaka demus(sp?) and pliers has the same feel as well.

Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs

And I’ve never seen the song that way. Maybe because I knew this one since I was a little, little kid from an album of novelty songs my parents had (also included _They’re Coming To Take Me Away_ and _Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor?_). So, to me, it was obviously a novelty song, and my mental image has always been that it’s an actual talking wolf singing it, even after I realized exactly what the lyrics were a metaphor FOR. I don’t see it as rape so much as simply attraction and attempting to woo.

I used to do this song at karaoke…

Me neither. After all, the original Red Riding Hood story is about making sure that young girls were aware of “wolf” types who would try to seduce him. Seduce, not rape.

Anyway I think as a young girl this was one of my first…ah, erotic stirrings. I would notice I had a funny feeling when I listened to it. Like, dangerous but sexy. Okay, it’s a bit cheesy, but I still love it. Owooooooooooooooo! I mean, baaaah.

You know, I had forgotten about it, but I think it’s the Baaing at the end of the song that pushes it over the top into creepyville for me.

Another one I’ve always sung at karaoke and people are always surprised at the lyrics is “Sweetest Thing” by U2. It’s such an upbeat song about an emotionally and physically abusing relationship. “My baby’s got blue skies, but she gives me black eyes.”

“Superstar” by the Carpenters I find a little bit creepy only because it’s such a sad song sung in such an up beat voice and tune. It just doesn’t match. There are several Carpenter songs that kind of fall intot his category for me as well.

I just heard a song today that takes the creepy cake.

For some reason, while listening to [“Bless You”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYr5ins5ujU) by Tony Orlando, I was feeling the creeps. Just something about the tune combined with the words makes it sound and seem creepy to me.

It is funny that there seems to be a line between sexy/creepy. Two songs named as creepy are songs that I found sexy (Lil Red Riding Hood and Chantilly Lace). Though there’s also a fine line between sexy and cheesy.

As a child, I was creeped out by “Here, There, and Everywhere”. Since then, I’ve found out it’s because Paul’s vocals were closely miked, so he sounds strangely “in the room” on the recording.

Really funny when people would have it played at their wedding, mostly in the 80’s. Did they never bother listening to the lyrics?

Not creepy exactly, but kind of a “bad omen” feeling, that my brother chose the Cardigans’ “Lovefool” to be played at his wedding.

Welcome to the SDMB, **alexob6**. In general, we prefer that people not bump old threads, ones in which there’s been no activity for three or six months. I’m going to close this one, but feel free to start a new thread.
