I know we’ve had about a thousand very vaguely creepy threads. I thought I’d start one again, if that’s okay. I just thought of something that creeps me out. When animals or monsters or anything has human hands or feet. Like the William Wegman dogs with human hands. Or the Where the Wild Things Are monster with horns and human feet. And I think that youtube video, the Cat with Hands, features a cat with human hands or feet. (I’m not sure I have the nerve to rewatch it.) What gets to you? ---

I’m on record as being tryptophobic (phobia of clustered holes), but have recently realized that ant hills _ **really** _ bother me as well. I’ve always felt the overwhelming urge to destroy any I see, but a couple weeks ago I saw a very large one – it was probably a foot in diameter and three or four inches tall – that I kicked as I walked by. The top came off in a large chunk with the chambers inside still visible (which set off my tryptophobia), and then a huge number of ants started swarming out of it, which made my skin crawl all over. It’s the grossest thing I’ve seen in a while. ---

If you find _The Cat With Hands_ creepy, check out Robert Morgan’s stop-motion shorts (especially [The Separation](http://www.animusfilms.co.uk/separation.html)). The are both beautiful (especially when you think of how much work went into them) and nightmare-inducing. ---

Our neighbor gave us some very nice logs for our fireplace. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to all, they were filled with hundreds of small black flies, which seemed to have an attraction to light. During the day, they gravitated toward the window, where we found many of them lying either unconscious or dead, coating the floor. ---

[Snopes.com](http://Snopes.com). I’m not even talking about the Horror section –I’m talking about almost _all_ urban legends, creepy or not, true or not. The worst are the ones where supposedly innocent things seem threatening, like backward subliminal messages in songs (yes, I know backward masking is a load of bullshit. The thought still sets my hair on edge), or when actors who work on children’s shows are revealed to be perverts or criminals. I read a legend late at night not long ago (and good GOD am I embarrassed to admit this) about the guy in the Barney suit smacking a kid, and I had to turn off the site. I had a little trouble sleeping for a while. ---

I was at a carnival and I, my kid sister and my mom were waiting in line at the bumper cars. In front of us was a girl around my sister’s age who turned around and started talking to me like it was nothing and we’d known each other forever (I was around 30 at the time.) I humored her thinking that she must indeed know me from somewhere or that she knew my sister or mom. My sister or my mom didn’t acknowledge her. No one interacted with her at all. So a girl who I didn’t know interacts with me familiarly out of the blue and apparently no one else can see her. (You’d think that they’d either explain who she was, or ask how I knew her, or ask why I am talking to myself.) The fact that little girls are commonly creepy visages in horror movies doesn’t really help. (Unfortunately I didn’t ask my mom and sister about it at the time and they probably don’t even remember that incident.) ---

Trypophobic checking in! ::shudder:: Also, someone posted (somewhat recently) a thread about the giant wind turbines. I’d never thought of them as creepy before, but hot diggity damn… I do now. I tried to find that thread awhile back, but my search fu is poor. There was an especially creepy pic in it. ---

For me its vast, yet enclosed spaces. When I was a kid, we’d often pass by Moffet Field in Mountain View. Now, Moffet Field is known for its massive blimp hangar. When I was a kid I had no idea that was what it was for, I just assumed they figured it was easier to build one gigantic hangar than a dozen little ones. One day I saw it with its front doors open…:eek: …and gazed into a yawning vast cavity; empty yet immense in its magnitude. The concept of something _so huge_ and yet _so empty_ really unnerved me. You know that big-ass hole they have in south America? The one deep enough you can fit the freaking Empire state building in? So deep you can’t really see the bottom? Ugh… There was a scene in the new James Bond movie where they are falling out of a plane or something and the whole time they are _falling down this huge hole_ it made me a little sick to my stomach. I don’t like the idea of looking inside a filled-up hot air balloon…All that empty space enclosed just makes me nauseated for some reason. ---

A few years ago I read all about the “Paul is dead” phenomenon on some website, and got the serious heebie-jeebies for hours afterwards. It didn’t help that I was alone in the house, or that I kept imagining movement out of the corner of my eye. I don’t think I’ve ever been more genuinely creeped out. And yes, I know it was a lot of hooey, but reading about funerals and car crashes and subliminal messages does tend to freak one out a little bit. Also, babies named Darlene. ---

That happened to me when I first started reading snopes and Straight Dope and read stuff about the munchkin suicide (I know it didn’t happen but it still skeeved me) or the picture of the Beatles with butchered babies.
