> Actually, I believe Charlie was attempting to show he was a sophisticated fish, to which the reply was, “We don’t want tuna with good taste, we want tuna that taste good!” Why Mr. The Tuna wants to die and get eaten, I have no idea.

I remember that one too. I think I remember it a little later in time, but my recall of things from the fifties is pretty fragmented, so I couldn’t swear to it.
Poor old Charlie. He really missed the boat.

(my emphasis)
Uh, Charlie’s not quite as old as _that_.

According to [this](http://www.foodreference.com/html/wcharliethetuna.html) site:

> Charlie the Tuna, representative of StarKist Tuna, made his first appearance in a TV commercial for StarKist, in 1961. He has starred in over 85 Television commercials, always trying to learn good taste. But the answer is always “Sorry, Charlie. StarKist wants tuna that tastes good, not tuna with good taste.”

I think if we replace the word ‘creepy’, with ‘stupid’, we are closer to the truth. We sit and watch these crappy commercials, vowing to NEVER buy that brand, but, guess what, the cretin ad writer could care less if you buy the product, he’s raking in the bucks just to get you to notice. And, guess what, you have. Maybe we’re stupid. :smack:

There is another mannequin commercial for juicyfruit gum, I believe. The slogan is ‘twisted sweet’ or something and it shows a guy performing CPR on one of those practice dummies and it gets up after him and chases him around once it gets a taste of the gum. It even loses an arm and goes after him. Bizarre.

I just saw this one a few hours ago, and the first thing I thought of was this thread:

It’s a cinnamon gum commercial, I forget the brand. Anyway, a teenage girl is introducing her new boyfriend to her parents. They all sit in the living room and the girl pops a piece of the gum. Almost immedietly she attacks her boyfriend and starts making out with him and climbing on top of him. It cuts to the parents looking shocked, while you can still hear the coupling moaning. Then, the mother gets what’s going on and gets a piece of gum for herself…while still in the same room.

If this is the effect the gum is going to have on me and my family, I want no part of it.

Holy cow, I totally forgot one of the commercials that creeps me out. We saw it among the commercials before WotW today. It’s the Skittles commercial where two sheep with men’s heads are eating Skittles off a tree trunk.

That’s just weird. WEIRD, I tell you.

I just saw one this evening that really creeped me out. It’s for Playland (an amusement park in Vancouver) with people coming off the rides with their heads distorted and their facial features scrambled. That’s a great selling point - our rides are so extreme you’ll spend the rest of your life frightening small children!
