Creepy UNSOLVED MYSTERIES Memories

^^^The Clifford Sherwood case.

I think the boy is dead. The mother refused to look at the dead boy’s remains, stating something like, “Oh, I just know it can’t be my Clifford.”

Sir Rhosis

That looks right,** Sir Rhosis**. Thanks. The Mounties still list it was a Family abduction – but I thought it was ruled out. At leaast Robert Stack lead us to the belief that that was far from sure …

I recall that about the Mom she took one look and said “Not my Clifford” the remains were of a boy about the same age who had died about the same time he disappeared about 100 miles away right? this was before DNA maybe they could test now … Glad to have a name thanks.

I remember one segment that involved a teenage girl being abducted from a gas station (I think she might have worked there?). A couple of men pulled her into a car and drove away. The creepy part was that someone saw it happen and heard the girl calling for help, but the person wasn’t able to help her before the car drove away and was only able to call 911 and report it. If I remember correctly, the abducted girl was looking right at that person when she yelled for help.

Can you imagine being the person who was unable to help and having that image seared into your mind for the rest of your life?

I remember the events as being given in this way: Clifford and two other boys are walking to school. Clifford and one boy separate from the third for some reason. The third boy goes onto school. Clifford and boy number two are never seen again. However a boy’s torso is found near where they would have walked.

Clifford’s mother REFUSED to even go to the morgue and look at the remains. It may be my memory, but in the UM segment, the elderly mother of Clifford got a bit testy and replied to the effect: “I never looked at the body, becuase I just knew it couldn’t have been my Cliffy,” and would not discuss it further.

I believe the poor old lady (who is still alive, I think) is deluding herself.

That’s my memory. I’ll read your link–thanks.

Sir Rhosis

There was one where a mom was letting her very young (3 or 4 yr old) daughter play at a playground that was across the street from their house. The playground was empty, and the mom could look out the window while she washed dishes. It was a daily routine. One day, she looked up from the dishes, and the kid was gone. She ran to the playground, and IIRC, the little girl’s shoe was lying next to the swing she had been on. I don’t remember if they ever found her, but imagine having to see the location of your child’s abduction, evertime you looked out the window.

Wasn’t there one about a missing/kidnapped kid from Murfreesboro?

Can’t recall much about it…

Sandra Jean or Sandra Jane, I think. And her fiance’s name was “Tommy”. The thing that got me about the episode is that the flashbacks had the actors and actresses in clothing from the 1890s, even though this supposedly took place in the 1910s. (Sorry, I’m really anal about costume accuracy!)

Not so much eerie as sad are the stories about elderly individuals searching for long lost siblings who were separated by social workers back before World War II. Rather than try and keep track of these people, or keep the kids together, they totally lose touch with each other.

I love the ghost stories, and past life regressions and all that. I don’t necessarily BELIEVE any of it, but I adore ghost stories. I just absolutely love them.

Ooops! Forgot something! (Why is it I always remember something else I wanted to add AFTER hitting “submit?” :smack: )
Anyone remember the “Black Hope Horror”? Supposedly a community called Poppet’s Way was built over an old black cemetary that was full of former slaves who died prior to WWII. And this one family had all kinds of crap-sink holes, pets dying, poisonous snakes, all of them getting cancer. I believe some graves were located, but later when they tried to finally dig up one, the woman’s daughter collapsed and died of a heart attack. I remember I read a book about this years ago.

Yep. I own the book. It’s in the magazine rack in the bathroom at home. One of the neighbors found two dead bodies when they were digging for a pool. Unfortunately, the homeowners there couldn’t get any compensation because there was no record of a cemetary being on the land. They all had to basically abandon their houses or sell them for a pittance. This summarizes the UM segment about it.

And the Sandra Jean/Sarah whatever case is exactly the one I was thinking of. I have to say I’m relieved I wasn’t imagining the whole thing.

I find the producers of “Unsolved Mysteries” to be even creepier than the people they profile.

Several years ago they approached a friend of mine for permission to exploit the tragic car accident deaths of his parents and sister by portraying him as a mass murderer.

He told them to fuck off and had his lawyer write them and say the same officially.

There’s one I saw earlier this year on Lifetime about a weird extended family situation in Oklahoma or some midwest state. None of them got along, and three of them just disappeared one day after being driven home from a gathering. The driver says she dropped them in some Walmart parking lot after an argument. Wish I could remember more because for some reason it really creeped me out.

This case: Websleuths

I remember that girl called mute i was bout 6yrs old

Update… a biker on his death bed, confeses that after they kidnap the girl she was druged, raped and murderd shortly after…

Unfortunately her parents have since past and never did find out what had happend to there daughter

It’s a shame they never did any segments about zombies, though.

Some of the old shows with Robert Stack were good, especially the mystery crimes as opposed to Spooky Stuff We Can’t Explain.

But overall, Forensic Files was a great improvement, in particular compared to the newer Unsolved Mysteries shows.

the main theme always creeped me the hell out.

fuck. it still does

I don’t even need to click that link. I haven’t heard the theme to this show since I was a wee lad, but wow, I can hear it playing in my head right now.

I’m too young to remember any of the specific episodes, but I’ll never forget that theme!

And yes it was CREEPY!

yeah, i’d recommend not clicking the link. i can’t get that shit out of my head now. i’m never falling asleep tonight.

Joan Gay Croft has haunted me. The most likely scenario is that a childless woman hired men who are skilled at kidnapping kids to give to childless couples. These men found out about the tornado and decided to visit the hospital for seemingly orphaned kids or kids who injuries rendered them “out of it”, so to speak.

I believe Joan lived to adulthood. If she has passed, it’s as an adult of natural causes. Those men DID NOT kill her.
