Thanks, that’s something to keep in mind for the future. With trying to fit an entire system into the budget I have, I don’t think the improvement will be worth cutting something else.
I spend most of my time online so I don’t think a faster HD will make that much of a difference. My current drive is only 5400 rpm so moving up to 7200 will already be an improvement.
All sounds good to me.
What I do different & why.
No case, the computer is on the wall, no heat problems. Really easy to mess with it that way also. LOL
Wife had same CPU and RAM and MB as I do. She has 7200 RPM HD’s
I have all the same except for having 10K RPM HD’s.
I clone the HD’s as backup. I have 20 GIGs on my machine and I do a complete clone ( HD Clone Pro) in 4 minutes & 17 seconds.
She has 8 GIGs on her HD It take 26 minutes and 32 seconds to clone her hard drive.
A hard drive in the drawer is hacker proof, lightning proof, malware proof, and probably pretty safe all around. part of my weekly or bi weekly maintenance routine to do that.
key to HD long life = cool & no vibrations.
HD is mounted on rubber
Cheap BIG fan is slung underneath on rubber bands and does not touch the wood brackets or the HD at any time. = Cool and no vibrations.
Of course if your rig is in the living room of a nice house and you care about appearances in relation to visitors, this might not be for you.
Just something to think about the next time you open your case to cooked parts and 3 lbs of dust bunnies…
YMMV
GusNSpot, interesting setup but it wouldn’t work for me. The cats would reduce that to rubble in no time.
Never had any overheated parts, I wouldn’t be replacing the system if it weren’t so far out of date.
We only have 8 cats & they leave it alone. Might need to have a talk with yours… he he he
I was just giving you some more to think about. Just cause it works for me only means it works for me.
Never know when the information may come in handy.
Hope all works well for you on your build…
