# Cross-country golf tourney

I just got a notice to a type of golf tournament I have never heard of. It’s such an awesome idea I had to share.
Basically, the idea is that you tee off and play your ball to a completely different green. If you look at the [map](http://bluemash.com/upcoming/cross-country-golf) on the club’s website, you can see hole #1 is actually teeing off from hole #10 and shooting for the green on #17. However, the best hole is clearly number 9, in which one tees off from #1, crosses 230 yards of area that is really only used for as a right-of-way for high power lines, and ends up on the practice putting green.
Alas, I am not able to participate, but damn – what a fun idea for a golf tournament.
Disclaimer – no, I am not soliciting people to join the tournament. I just thought it was such a cool event that I am compelled to share.

We used to do that as kids, late in the afternoon when few others were on the golf course.

Thought you’d be discussing someone actually trying to play golf across the country; I recall a guy doing this would would whack his ball down highway medians, going from the East Coast to the West.
My dad’s old club in Cleveland would play a tournament of wacky golf once each year (oddly cut holes placed on steep slopes, green obstacles to overcome, etc.).

I’ve teed off from one hole, and ended up on the green of another. Just not intentionally. :eek:
Looks like a fun tourney, though. Too bad you cannot participate–I’d love to hear how it went.

Holy shit, that’s a course near me and owned by semi distant relatives. I meet him at my family reunion this year. It’s a nice course if you haven’t played, it’s hard but fair.
Damn, I was thinking on doing a 5k that day, but I might just have to think about doing this, especially if you can play for free again.
This same course has done two running rounds, where you carry your clubs and run the course. The best time and score combined win. I know I could get away with just 4-5 clubs total, but it was pretty expensive.

It is actually my second favorite course in the area. I think Whiskey Creek beats it out in my book.
I intend to do the running thing next year - but it’s kind of a bitch to do it on a Friday morning.

Be glad you didn’t do the one in July, it was close to 100 or so I think. I know it was a hot one.
I’ve never played up at Whiskey Creek, though I’ve heard it’s really good.
Now I just have to decide if I want to play golf or run on Thanksgiving.
