I didn’t catch the authors’ names, but it’s published by Wiley.

**rat avatar** , of those symbols in your post, “veebar” is the only one that looks like any sort of embellished V. The others appear to be for making ASCII graphics tables with single and double boundary lines. At least, on my OSX/Firefox browser.
