In this game, the idea is to supply a crossword puzzle clue to an answer that is given. For example, if I gave you the word STAR, you might supply the following clues: 1. Proxima Centauri 2. Drummer Ingo 3. George Clooney in “Oceans 11” 4. Moroccan flag symbol 5. Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk feature A few rules: a) One entry per poster, but it can contain up to five clues, as above. b) NYT crossword puzzle rules regarding number and verb tense. c) Ordinary everyday words only: no ERNEs, OONAs, ORTs, ONOs, or other typical crossword words when you need more vowels. d) These rules are subject to change, as the game develops. e) The games goes for 24 hours or thereabouts, depending when posters can be online. f) Should **twickster** pop in, her word is final. Okay, with all that said, here we go. The answer word is CAT. ETA: and the poster of the last answer word selects their favorite clue, and the poster of that gets to post the next word. Sorry, I forgot to mention that. ---

Obligatory Doper Nitpick: Oona isn’t an obscure word by any definition. Oona O’Neill was an actress, the daughter of playwright Eugene O’Neill, had an affair with JD Salinger at 16, dumped him and married Charlie Chaplin at 18, her daughter was actress Geraldine Chaplin, and her granddaughter is also named Oona and is a well-known actress in Game of Thrones. Oona #1 was _very_ famous. Oona #2 is nearly as famous, thanks to her grandma’s good name. Same with Ono - who doesn’t know everyone’s #1 favorite musician, Yoko? They’re a lot better known than “Ingo” - unless you meant Ringo. 😀   😉 ---

Ringo Starr was the Beatles’ drummer. “Drummer Ingo” – well, take away one R, just like you took one away from [R]ingo, and you’ve got STAR. **Twicks** liked that one, as I recall. Anyway, the point is let’s just use ordinary words. I don’t know how I’d come up with five clues for OONA, So let’s select words that we can give five clues to. ---

I couldn’t agree more. This is the reason why the black dots in a Romanian crossword puzzle look so random. The purpose is that the square should contain as many natural words as possible defined in a smart manner, and as few rare words as possible too. (On the other hand, there is a maximum percentage of black dots admitted - usually 10%.) It is a good idea to have a different thread for this game. The one I started should work with actual puzzles. I’m sure I’m going to come up with something luring. Or not. To end this tedious post already, I will participate here but I’m sure I will make a bad player for a whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile. Participation is more important than winning is not just words. ---
