"Help me! Help me! " Cruel nature just off my deck. You can’t see the web in this shot, but neither could the fly.

Nothing lives unless something else dies

Ah, Mother Nature, red in tooth and claw, yet still lovely to contemplate

A few years ago I was sitting on my back deck when a cicada killer with a cicada in its grip fell out of a big maple tree and landed right in front of me (a cicada killer is a giant wasp that, well, kills cicadas).

I watched in horrified fascination for several minutes as the cicada killer dragged the cicada across the deck and back up into the maple tree. It wasn’t until they were up in the leaves out of sight when I thought damn, shoulda got my phone out and filmed that.
