Definitely 8 - think more about the ‘study’ part. ETA: having just looked it up, I see the solution I intended is apparently a Britishism, which I hadn’t realised - hopefully it’s still gettable though. ---

The clue for KIDDING ought (in my view) to contain some reference to the “ding” part, which mine doesn’t. Would it help if I changed it slightly to “Study **of** small goats”? That might give someone enough to propose the right answer, even if it’s a word they’re not familiar with. ---
