I guess that could work - but a quick Google search doesn’t show up any references for the word as a whole except a recent film by that name, which isn’t referenced in the clue. My intended answer is a writer, which can be broken down into “a sleep” and “fish” - does that help? ---

I think this must be STELLA ARTOIS, though it seems to me there are 3 ways to get “Stella” (the character in the play, the drink, and Latin for “star”) and only one way to get “Artois” (the drink), so I’m not 100% sure.
