# Cthulhu doesn't scare me

Okay, now I’m getting a little creeped out.

Seriously, did anyone here see the first _Hellboy_ movie? I remember thinking “Hey, best Cthulhu yet!” (and bigger than a Cthubaru).

At a gigantic scale, it made more sense.

Entirely intentional on behalf of the comic’s author, Mike Mignola. _Hellboy_ is an attempt to fuse pagan faerie myths, Christian conceptions of Satan, Robert E. Howard-type ancient civilizations, and Lovecraftian cosmic horror. With just a pinch of ancient astronauts thrown in for spice.

The first movie did a decent enough job of capturing that, but its not a patch on what Mignola did in the comics.
