Okay, now I’m getting a little creeped out.
Seriously, did anyone here see the first Hellboy movie? I remember thinking “Hey, best Cthulhu yet!” (and bigger than a Cthubaru).
At a gigantic scale, it made more sense.
Entirely intentional on behalf of the comic’s author, Mike Mignola. Hellboy is an attempt to fuse pagan faerie myths, Christian conceptions of Satan, Robert E. Howard-type ancient civilizations, and Lovecraftian cosmic horror. With just a pinch of ancient astronauts thrown in for spice.
The first movie did a decent enough job of capturing that, but its not a patch on what Mignola did in the comics.
