> I’m not arguing for or against the rules - just that a 2% chance of winning is both insignificant and extremely rare. However, it seems to me that people who get paid to play this game have noticed a few trends, and are willing to dial it back a few notches so that they get a near-certainty over with so they can go home. There are 162 games in a season - that’s a long, hard, grueling schedule. I don’t begrudge anyone for coming to a near-universally agreed upon understanding to alleviate that just a little bit.

Alright, using [this tool](http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/inning_summary.cgi#showform&year=2010&team_id=NYY&ajax=1&submitter=1) I found 4 teams that blew leads of 7 or more last year. So it’s a rare event, but it is something that happens.

Wow - that’s a pretty sweet tool. Did you go through all the teams with that? I wonder if there’s something that would show all the games with a comeback of X after the Y inning in year Z. That just seems to have largest blown lead per team, unless I’m reading that wrong.

I just went team by team. I’m sure there is a way to find blown lead after x inning but that was quick and easier.
