Oops.

Does Stop Making Sense - the Talking Heads concert film COUNT?

That’s what I meant to say.

I used to know her body-double. That was a great film. Too bad it’s not out on DVD.

There are a ton of great cult movies out there. My favourites so far are _ **Zombie! vs. Mardi Gras** _, _ **A Bucket of Blood** _, _ **Down By Law** _ and _ **The Forbidden Zone** _.

But there are many worthy flicks in this thread!

**Snoo[insert correct number of "oo"s here]py:** Peter Jackson is actually from New Zealand. But yes, he’s a great filmmaker; **oldscratch** mentioned _Meet the Feebles_, which is one of the most twisted films I’ve ever seen, and yes, _Dead Alive_ is the one with the lawn mower.

**silent\_rob:** Darren Aronofsky, director of _Pi_, has actually completed his second film, _Requiem for a Dream_, and is currently fighting with the MPAA over the rating. They gave it an NC-17 because of some disturbing sexual material (it’s about addiction to hard-core drugs); Aronofsky and the distributor, Artisan (who brought us _Pi_, as well as _The Blair Witch Project_ and Soderbergh’s _The Limey_) are appealing the rating, requesting an R. Release is scheduled for early October; if the MPAA refuses to reconsider the NC-17, _Requiem for a Dream_ will be released unrated, _a la_ Todd Solondz’s _Happiness._

This movie news update brought to you by, um, me! 🙂

I got to see him perform at the Justice League with the Phantom Surfers. It was great. He’s still hilarious. I also have two of his early records.

Another good cult film that no one has mentioned is Time Bandits.

Wadda mean the remake of course? The ORIGINAL! Sure there’s no music but it’s directed by Roger Corman, and Jack Nicholson plays the masochist. Who needs music?

The Wicker Man - one of my top ten movies of all time. Damn, I’d love to see a fully restored copy. I’ve seen all the existing pieces but you can’t find them all in the same cut.

Frankenhooker - I’ve shown that to so many people who resisted it at first, then laughed their asses off at it.

Deadly Advice - Not sure whether it has reached cult status yet. It is very hard to find in the US. Great black comedy starring Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, etc, about a repressed young woman with an overbearing mother who starts getting advice from famous (dead) murderers like Jack the Ripper and Dr. Crippen.

Two unsung cult movies I quite like are Reefer Madness (Play the piano…faster…faster!) and They Saved Hitler’s Brain.

MST3K should have had a go at ...Hitler's Brain, but we can't be greedy.

1. I watch The Wicker Man at the end of every summer, almost ceremonially, like watching Its A Wonderful Life at Christmas.
2. A couple days ago, Circle of Iron was on TNT in the middle of the night, this is a very entertaining kung-fu/Beastmaster hybrid starring David Carradine and a well built, though homely, gent in leather hot pants and a huge blond hairdo, on some sort of Quest
3. Simon, King of the Witches, a forgotten gem from the sixties, about a Magician. Not the type that saws women in half, the other kind. He lives in a storm drain and casts spells for people. My favorite part is when a guy visits his underground abode and requests Simon cast a love spell on a girl. In order to facilitate the spell, Simon hands him a handkerchief and directs him to, ahem, “annoint the cloth with the effluvium of your love”. And the guy thinks it over and says, “I’ll try. You got any (dirty) pictures?”
4. Devil Doll, which has been eviscerated by Mystery Science Theater 3k, but is actually pretty good. Give me a good evil ventriloquist/creepy dummy movie any day!

Thanks **Cervaise**. I have since picked up the new _Independent Filmmaker_ for this month, and it has a great article/interview with him. I’ll definitely have to check it out. Speaking of _Happiness_, would that be considered cult? It’s not my favourite, but I really liked it.

Shoot, I missed this the first time. I should have posted it with my other post. Oh well.

I am very jealous, **oldscratch**. I have some of his stand-up stuff, including _Rudy Ray Moore is **Rude** _. It contains a lot of his stand-up routines from over the years, in kind of a best-of type thing. Though it’s one whole performance.

This also reminds me of another great Rudy Ray cult classic: _ **Petey Wheatstraw: The Devil’s Son In Law** _. A great cult classic. Hilarious!

Her body double?? For this film?

In a couple of scenes where she appears nude (as a matter of fact, in both of them that I rememmber), you can see her face. They may have used a body double for closeups or some other scenes, but a couple are **definitely** her.

Yes. Obviously for the non-face stuff. IIRC, the “head shot” (you know what I’m talking about) was my she. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, and it’s out of print, so I can’t check it out. (Not that I’ve seen my old friend’s wife naked IRL, for comparison purposes.)
