Being in the SCA I have tried it. Most salty than fishy, but even tho Worcestershire sauce also has a base of anchovies , Garum does taste somewhat fishy. Lots of Unami.

It isnt anything like what you imagine it tastes like.

I’m fond of a British condiment called “The Gentleman’s Relish”, which consists of anchovy paste and butter mixed with a secret spice blend. It’s meant to be spread very thin on toast and served with scrambled eggs.

It’s salty and **extremely** fishy, but it adds a lot of flavor, and I bet you could substitute it for Worcestershire sauce in a lot of dishes without anyone noticing.

Kinda sounds a bit like Marmite, eh? Or vegemite?

That’s anchovy paste for ya. Still, I’ve never heard of this intriguing spread and it’s added to the list. Is it refrigerated?

After opening, yes.
