> The Monroes is a Western television series which originally aired on ABC during the 1966–67 season.
> The series centered on five orphans trying to survive as a family on the frontier in the area around what is now Grand Teton National Park near Jackson, Wyoming. Their parents die in an accident in the first episode, and they try to carry on without them.

When I Googled it, I was surprised to see Barbara Hershey was one of the leads. I remember the series, but never made the connection between it and her.

> Remember the football game with the electric board that rumbled when you turned it on and the little men just bounced around on the board? The ball was a little magnet that stuck to the metal base of one of the players and if, by some chance, the player with the ball bounced around enough to get into the end zone, you got points. I had one of those games and hated it, it was not entertaining in the least

OT: If you tour the Dogfish Head brewery, you learn that one of these football games was used to continuously hop their IPAs. The game was suspended over the brew kettle and hops were scooped onto it while it was vibrating. The hops would fall into the ketttle at a slow but steady rate.

They have a little more professional way of doing the continuous hopping now. Besides, the football game eventually disintegrated from the steam coming from the kettle.

ETA: A neighbor kid had the game with the metal kicker. Problem was that the ball would get kicked way across the room, never to be found. Game over.

For years, my ultimate tough trivia question was “what was the name of the ski jumper on the beginning of _Wide World of Sports_?” There was a time when everybody had seen that clip; he was the “agony of defeat” guy, but almost no one knew his name. With _Wide World_ fading into the mists of obscurity, I need a new question. I have one for _All In the Family_, but I fear that’s not much better.

It was Vinko Bogotaj, from then-Yugoslavia.

Definitely! The sexy twins–one of them was a clone of the other and nobody knew which was the clone, even them! They were called the Bettys (what do you suppose the correct spelling would be?) There was also a totally chicken-shit robot (Andy?); he didn’t care who knew it, too.

Ficus was the best source of laughs: one time, the Bettys got pissed off at him and they both hollered, “PLANT!” Another time, someone asked him how his species reproduced and he laid down on the ground with all four limbs in the air and yelled, “Bee, bee, bee, bee, bee!” When asked, **What happens now?** he replies, **We wait for the Bee**. 😃

I can’t tell, who is the ‘guy in the middle’? …A DVD of ‘The Monroes’ (which I, who know everything! have never heard of) is available for purchase on Amazon, at a surprisingly high #267 ‘for Westerns’.

Like I said, it was a good series. 🆒

The “guy in the middle” is Liam Sullivan, aka “Parmen”:

I loved that show!

Also, from roughly that same era: Mel Brooks’ first Robin Hood send-up, “[When Things Were Rotten](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072585/?ref_=nv_sr_1),” starring Dick Gautier as Robin Hood, Dick Van Patten as Friar Tuck, Bernie Kopell as Alan-a-Dale, and Misty Rowe (one of the “Hee-Haw Girls”) as Maid Marian.

Quark aged terribly, I liked it at 10 but I tried it again about 10 years ago and it was terrible.

When Things Were Rotten had some real potential, shame it didn’t get a longer run. Dick Gautier is probably best known as Hymie from Get Smart. Maybe not the best choice for Robin Hood.

Did Uncle Floyd ever make it out of the NJ/NYC market? He was a UHS fixture in the 70s but back then I know he was only NJ/NY.

I thought these American Bricks were the ones I had. But on further research, they are too big. The ones I had made buildings that were only a few inches high and wide. The bricks were about an inch square, white and had grooves in them to look like doors and windows. I believe the roofs were green. The set came with a mat that had streets lined out and came with tiny trees and stop signs and I think a little flag pole for a school. I can’t find anything like it online.

I recall helping a friend cut rust out of his car and we used old erector set pieces and what-not to frame a corner then fiber-glassed it. The car was a Ford or Mercury from the mid-60s and pretty rusty. This patch was because small things would fall out of his trunk.

I just realized that this stupid song fits in this thread.

I saw it on TV when I was a kid. It was pretty offensive, maybe wouldn’t even get aired now.

Either garishly-dressed cartoon characters or garishly-dressed and made-up humans

Sang and danced a song that included these lyrics:

[cue fake India-style music]

[Guy sings] "I am the Swami…
[Girl sings] “And I’m the girl with the pastrami, 'cause we ran out of salami…”

It was terrible. I must have thought it was funny back then though - otherwise I would never remember it.
