Culture artifacts that ...maybe not ONLY you remember....but its getting close.

Sheldon Cooper still has his.

How about Rapidograph Pens? And K&E Leroy Lettering Sets? I used them for years and years in mapping. Mostly with a very difficult 0000 pen. We where constantly looking for the best ink to use.

Using catch phrases from old tv shows or commercials can make you look like an idiot to younger people.

It’s a shame because at the time, these were very current, pop cultural expressions.

Dyn-o-mite Jimmie Walker

Aye! The Fonz

I’m Coming Elizabeth, Fred Sanford

Can’t believe I ate that whole thing. Alka-Seltzer

Wow, I’ve not thought about black snakes for decades! I now need me some.

I’m 51yo, some of my toy memories:

EZ Bake ovens (the originals that “baked” via lightbulb).

HippityHop balls (with the horse head).

Rock 'em Sock 'em robots.

Fisher Price: farm with the moooooooing barn door, airport set, and car garage (with an elevator!)

Dip-a-Flower kit.

Stretch Armstrong.

Beautiful Chrissy doll with extendable hair; I cut the hair off, mom was pissed!

My brothers had every GI Joe and accessory ever made.

I’ve mentioned this in other threads, but I’ve never met anyone who remembers the Whoosh! compressed air powered glider from the Sears Wishbook.

Missed it by that much
… and loving it
Thats the second biggest fill in the blanks I’ve ever seen.

The Devil made me do it!

Sorry about that, Chief!

Here comes the Judge!

Second time this month!

I do. But I think the ones we got were a version flavored with saccharin or something because I remember the aftertaste.

I remember it, but only slightly. Just the first 2 lines of the song.

Oh, yes. Many times. I believe I damaged my hearing slightly before I thought I should use ear plugs.

Me, too. But I got frustrated because the tiny male connectors broke easily.

Chico Marx’s cousin.

[aside]The very early Second City did the “interpreter” improv with one character answering questions as JFK, and the other as Khrushchev (in mock Russian), whose answers would be translated by the interpreter. One night Groucho Marx was in the audience, and he was heckling them. Tony Holland, who was the interpreter on this occasion, stepped to the front of the stage and spoke to Groucho, in character: “That will be enough. You’ve had your chance, Mr. Engels.” From Something Wonderful Right Away, edited by Jeffrey Sweet.

Exit, stage right!

Tudor Electric Football is still in existence, though it seems to be more of a niche hobby for adults who played it when they were kids.

There are too many familiar things here to list, but I’ll add one. For years, my ultimate tough trivia question was “what was the name of the ski jumper on the beginning of Wide World of Sports?” There was a time when everybody had seen that clip; he was the “agony of defeat” guy, but almost no one knew his name. With Wide World fading into the mists of obscurity, I need a new question. I have one for All In the Family, but I fear that’s not much better.

I have his name filed away somewhere; all I remember off the top of my head was that he was from Serbia or Croatia, or someplace like that.

What’s the one for All in the Family?

I have one but it’s almost as dated: What American TV series was the first to have real-life twins playing twins?

Another, somewhat more recent: On which popular American TV series was one of the main characters named “Rosalinda”?

So does Wonderella.

I had a lot of the toys from it … The show was odd it was too grown up for kids but too kiddie for adults… The s hooting at the show part was just a couple of minutes here and there

What two regular cast members[sup]*[/sup] from All In the Family have been nominated for Oscars?

  • For “regular cast members”, I mean that their names were in the opening credits of the show.

Jean and Liz Sagal on Double Trouble?

Tom Terrific, with Manfred the Wonder Dog.
