I’m breaking this out of the “Series you’re currently watching, etc.” thread because there are points I’d like to talk about.

If you’re not watching it, the series is about a couple of Silicon Valley lawyers who go up against the tech biggies. Lots of issues pertinent to this region and beyond are explored.

Last night’s episode discussed something I hadn’t heard of before. It described big rollers placing huge bets with prediction markets about the outcome of local elections and propositions. The D.A. said that it was an untraceable way of swaying the outcome of an election, because the public would notice the huge anonymous bets and it would influence their votes. She said it was even more effective than contributing to someone’s campaign, as there were no limits on how much money it took and it was anonymous. I’m struggling to wrap my head around this. Is this based on fact? And why would I vote for someone just because an anonymous person placed a huge bet?

This thread is also for general discussion of the series, because I think it’s a topnotch show with great writing and characters. It’s also pertinent to the **teelabrown** household, because my husband worked for a big tech company before retiring, and I worked for a Silicon Valley law firm for twenty-five years.

I think, based on my Jack McCoy-based legal “education”, that they are really being flexible about what is possible. I think the idea was that people like to back a winner and it gives someone an advantage into being perceived as a winner. I don’t think it’s a reliable sociological phenomenon as described in the show. A show where two law firm partners represent defendants at cross purposes, where an ex girlfriend is opposing counsel a few weeks ago, iirc.

I’m literally watching this episode right now! I don’t know about the legal precedent in the episode.

But it’s a cool show. I like all the cast so far. It’s fun and clever enough for me. The stories have been good plus there’s the over arching story. Like Matlock (2026).

Inorite? The tech issues they address have so far been very current. The legal complications, as **Fair\_Rarity** points out above, are a little far-fetched, but not distractingly so. I’m not sure just what happened to their clients. Did they just turn themselves in and leave the attorneys to hash it all out in court? If so, maybe they’ll appear in a future episode. I liked the character of A.J.

Oh, and in episode 3, the actor who played Natalia’s ex, the CEO of that drone-show firm, is Fisher Stevens. I didn’t recognize him at all.

I’m enjoying it after having watched some of Robert and Michelle King’s previous shows (The Good Wife, The Good Fight and Elsbeth). So far so good. I expect that “Bo,” the sentient AI, will return even though the company that created it shut it down. (In some of the SF stories, the AI escapes its original computer and “lives” on other systems.)

It might be fun to see some of the characters from the other shows appear on this one, even in cameo roles. Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart is always welcome.

Oh, Bo is definitely on the heroes’ server. The company even gave them a kill switch code word (which I don’t remember).

Do Michael and Olivia even have a “server?” I get the impression that they’re running the firm on their notebook computers and that barely furnished office. So he’s out there in some form. (And how much storage and processing power would such a thing need?)

“Noriega,” I think it was.

Despite my bagging on its believability, I do like the show and as long as it doesn’t go too far, I can turn my brain off and just have fun for an hour. I loved the character of Luke Cage so that’s what pulled me in to see Mike Colter again and I was pleasantly surprised by the _Girls5eva_ reunion with
Renée Elise Goldsberry and Busy Philipps
