Because they want to look good? It might not be your choice, but some women like to match their accessories. It’s not a matter of “understanding”. I don’t get why people don’t watch soap operas either, but I’m sure they’ll get some enjoyment out of it. ---

I guess I don’t think of a purse as a fashion accessory. I mean, do businessmen change their briefcase to match their outfit? Students their backpacks? I can’t imagine unloading all the crap from my purse into another purse daily just because of what I’m wearing. Does not compute. ---

Well, maybe I am. I carry a black A4-sized binder with me most of the time, and I only wear black shoes under a suit anyway. Huh! I guess I’m a fashion snob, and I didn’t even know it. ---

Gosh, if only fashions had fossilized in one time period. I would love to wear my Cotehardie and braies. Fashions change. Every generation has complained about the failure of the next generations fashion. I try not to dress my 7 yo daughter like a ho. That’s my only guideline. Modern clothes are different than what I wore, but I knew that was going to happen. It may be ugly to me, but if she likes it, I could care less. As for the thug baggy clothes, wifebeaters and boxers… well, they’ve been going strong for well over 10 years now. I expect it to hang around for quite a bit longer, or at least until “urban hip-hop” decides that suits and such are the cool thing to wear. ---

Heck–forget Ren Faire stuff. I miss grunge. No fuss, no muss. It was cheap, easy to buy, and easy to alter to suit individual tastes. Besides, it had the great advantage of blurring class boundaries. It’s hard to be a snob and discriminate against people without the “right” clothing when the “right” clothing costs a mere $3.00 at your local thrift store. (sniff.) Now, when I wear a pair of men’s jeans (which are the only jeans I have) and an oversize thrift shop shirt (which is my favorite kind), I just look like a loser. ---

I like girl-shaped clothes on girls. Girls that are girl-shaped, that is. I wear jeans all the time in my free time, but they fit. They come just slightly below my belly-button (I LOVE that word!) and I don’t wear belly shirts because I’m too old for it to be anything but PATHETIC (I’m 46). And I love all the hippie-chick stuff that’s popular these days. Gonna git me some ruffly blouses! ---

I seem to have picked up from somewhere that kurtas and dresses worn over jeans is going to be a desirable look this season. Which is good news for me, as I like wearing dresses and long shirts over trousers, and I already have a large number of suitable dresses and shirts. I need some new jeans. I bought a lovely pair in November, but, um, I’ve lost some fat mass and they don’t fit anymore. The upside is that I’m very close to fitting into my favourite wool tweed pants. They’re slightly high-waisted, straight legged and look great with heels (slightly chunky, :P) and a twinset. Jeans shopping is difficult. There are some minging jeans out there, and most of the ones I try on bunch up around the groin. They also tend to be either an inch too short or two inches too long. Damn my short little legs. (I have lots of purses. I’m going to teach them to bite, and send them after OpalCat. Fear my beaded attack purses!)
