Curse you and your spelling, Americans

At least Arabic shows the short vowels regularly, but not the long ones (not too sure about Hebrew).

The ‘y’ sound is written, and ‘o’ and ‘u’ are as well, but not always. Oh, and to make it really cute, the letter that indicates ‘o’ and ‘u’ can also indicate ‘v’. That makes so much sense, thanks! You just sort of have to guess with the other vowels. If you can already speak Hebrew, it’s not too bad, but if you’re learning, it’s a nightmare.

Yu cn prbbly ndrstnd ths, rght?

Pro s no cmprnd st lngu, s my dfcl. (Pero si no comprende esta lengua, es muy difícil; But if you don’t understand the language, it’s very difficult.) See what I mean? I once spent ten minutes trying to puzzle out a word - it turned out to be “Chicago.” ARGH!
