I’m back in-country since yesterday for the next couple weeks and have scored a few interesting ones already. And a flood of white vehicles. - **POODLS** on a FL standard plate on a new white Jaguar sedan. I saw the driver park & get out. She had the sort of old money society look that suggested “Poodles” just might be her nickname, not her choice of dogs. I saw no dogs nor any dogly paraphernalia. - **STEPS⎵BG** on a FL standard plate on a shiny clean white mid-line pickup. Which was head-scratching enough. Then I got close enough to see the plate frame. Top edge said “STEPS BG”. Bottom edge said “One goat. One Passion - FOOD”. So now we know that’s the name of his goat. But why would anyone get a plate named after their goat? Aye, there’s the mystery for sure. - **NONNY⎵G** on a FL standard plate on a white small crossover. A very common granny/geezer mobile around here. Hooray for Nonny; she’s still driving. - **ONE⎵PIEC** on a FL standard plate on a dark gray (finally!) Hyundai IONIQ 5 small E-SUV. OK, one piece. But of what? The plate frame top said “Keep Calm” and the bottom said “Join the Straw Hats” with what looked like an East Asian-language ideogram flanking the words on both sides. Color me mystified. Last day-ish: - **EIRE⎵ESQ** on a FL standard plate on a Honda Pilot family wagon. A lawyer of Irish extraction? An Irish lawyer from Ireland who’s ex-pat retired to sunny FL after a long career in the dreeries? “Eire” might be their last name, but not as likely. - **777⎵ONE** on a FL standard plate on a new Bentley Continental sorta-sports car. Boeing 777 pilots are about the best paid in the industry, but they can’t afford Bentleys on their salary alone. 777 might also be a sly reference to slot machines or gambling in general, with the ONE meaning “won”, not “1”. Or the car belongs to somebody high up in the gaming industry. Or … ??? - **CBS⎵TV** on a FL standard plate on a new-ish Mercedes E-class. They own or manage the local CBS affiliate? They’re an on-air personality? They just work there? - **SP4⎵RKI** on a FL standard plate on a Tesla Model S. Presumably the more conventional spellings of “sparky” were already taken. ---
