Here in FL you have to apply in person usung a paper form ( IOW a pdf to fill out on-screen then print & carry to the office). There is an online query tool to see if your choice(s) is/are taken, but that’s it. And yes, on the paper form you can specify all 8 positions exactly. One of which has to be a space ---

I am not now nor have I ever been a physician nor have I played one on TV. (We won’t talk about staying at Holiday Inns. [PTSD shudder].) But I did for a few years have a personalized plate that ended in “ **…DR** ” for reasons having nothing to do with doctoring or medicine or even professoring. The plate was otherwise quite a brain teaser; without insider knowledge nobody was going to figure it out. You’d be amazed how many random people wanted to try to figure out that plate and the huge percentage of them that were totally stuck on “something something doctor” as the only possible framework to think about it. ---

Today I saw an FL surfer-themed plate on a Mazda family van that read **ABARX**. The plate frame was from an NH car dealer if that context helps any. Maybe a pharmacist with initials ABA, somebody proud of their BA in Pharmacy (OTOH I’d expect that to be a BS degree)? Maybe “BARX” is for “barks” as in dogs? ---

Today was a good haul of plates despite not much driving … A Lucid sedan with **HOW LKY**. They’re pretty cars although I wonder why anyone would buy a fancy EV from a start-up company that’ll probably declare bankruptcy long before your car is old or maybe even paid for? It was parked 90% in a no-parking zone & 10% encroaching on a handicapped space making that space unusable. No handicapped hang tag either. So I suspect some of the owner’s luck came from routinely stealing other’s luck. Next up was a red Lexus LC500 high end GT / luxo sports car. A convertible. The plate read **TOP DWN** and it was. A red Camaro w **ZATCH**. Presumably a nickname or the name of a pet. Fun to say in any case. A Lincoln Nautilus small SUV / family- or more likely geezer- wagon w **JFELD**. Belongs to John or Jane Feld-something? Shame it wasn’t **MFELD** for Marty Feldman. OTOH Marty’s been dead 42(!!?!) years, so him driving a late-model car would be more miraculous than surprising. ---

Based on the other bumper stickers, I don’t think The Kink means what I think it means. And now that I’m looking at it closer, one of those Kink stickers has the Road America outline on it, so I assume it’s related to that. That … errr … umm … appendage on the left of that Wisconsin plate looks a little kinked to me. Maybe it got slammed in a car door once or twice? At long last my personal plate arrived and has been installed. Just 7 weeks since I ordered it. I know you’ve all been waiting for the grand reveal with huge anticipation. Anyhow, it’s **LWI  TBR**. The gap is not significant to the meaning; it’s just there to avoid obscuring the plate art in the center. But the pic is not at all necessary to decode the plate. [aside] I just Bing-ed “LWITBR”. I knew it’s _almost_ unsearchable even on Google. Bing gave me an entire page of search results, including an AI-generated explanation, for the failed social media site formerly known as twitter. And nothing else. Color me baffled. Unless Microsoft is now cozying up to leon.
